kianweic,

Would you like to post the copy-paste article another time?
*
It was in this thread:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1513204

Somewhere in the middle for kianweic post and then some people reactions after (including mine)

RPS article was: RPS "Tosh... How apt"

I am fairly disappointed by Blizzard job in the SC2 characters and scripts writing really, it's an accumulation of cliches and the dialogs are pretty weak.

I know it's not a RPG but still, I expected better from Blizz and I didnt remember War3 or SC1 to be that bad, in my memory they had bigger twists, character building and "woaw" moments.

I enjoyed the SP overall and especially the missions which at least were varied, its more the in-between story which was streched out and hollow in my opinion.

Hopefully it's better in HotS or I will be a bit disappointed Blizz.

I also agree with Cheeze, DoW2 (Spesh Marheeens arent supposed to be Shakespeares) or CoH (WW2 random joes) managed to put more life in their voice acting without having such charismatic characters as SC2

I think they just need to get rid of the current voice actors and whoever who wrote the lines for the characters. The current cast is awful and the characters feel plain and lifeless. Kerrigan reminds me of EDI from ME2,except now, she's the hostile version. Yeah, it's the same actress, but i remembered she sounded different in C&C3.

If EA still sucks in the fanboy's eyes, at least EA knows how to make their game's sound effects fantastic. Blizzard on the other hand, clearly has lost some of it's charm from their older games. SC1 sounds awesome, even back in the days with those crappy build in speakers. Even till now, i think SC1 have some really memorable sounds and speech lines like "This is not Warcraft in space" by Artanis. SC2's sound is no where near even to games like C&C3 or DoW. At least a Space Marine sounds convincingly like an overzealous super soldier in DoW, or NOD's Flame Tank guy sounds like crazy guy but SC2's zealot sounds like some generic alien now as the bass-like sound effect isnt there now. Still, no one would really care in the long run if they are playing SC2 competitively, but still, it does ruin the immersion for those who want to enjoy the SP.

@Quazacolt: it's not deleted, it's in the thread I linked

@Cheese: yep, I think the graphics guys should get a raise done with the salaries of the script writers.
The menus and interface (like in Hyperion) are very well done and lots of small details.

But script writing was awful and full of one-liner.
It's not SupCom2 bad but it's a bit far from what I expected from Blizz

And quite funny your mention of Kerrigan being an evil EDI, true she was quite badly used in mostly 1-2 lines evil sentence "You can't stop me"
"You will all die"
"Nao I kill j00!"

I remembered there was so much more for the campaign back then. Seems like they have cut out heaps of it for some reason, like some sort of mini game in the armory. Still, it's not bad, but it does feel underwhelming for a high profile long development game.

Kerrigan is just full of cliche in SC2. Even EDI is so much more funny than Kerrigan in SC2.

I think it's almost as bad as Sup Com 2, SC2 also tried too hard to be funny.

i played with headphone through the way, the sound effects are pretty much SC1. biggrin.gif which I don't blame them. i think they're trying to keep it as it is, after all being SC2. They just enhanced the quality of the unit voices.

As to the actors behind the voices, the one i didn't like the most was the high pitched nassal-problem voice of that scientist.

i'm not picky on sound-effects, i think overall SC2's sound effects were still good, though just using pretty much the previous one.

frankly I'm not expecting something so outstanding cos it is the continuation of SC. i thought the mission things were great but i find it annoying that i had to replay the campaign just to play Lost Viking.

lastly, shouldn't this conversation be on the other thread about what we didn't like about SC2? smile.gif leave this thread for the campaign mission Q&A perhaps.

I played with head phones too, and it's the same one i used for any other games i play.

Im not complaining about some of the old voices are there, it's just that, it lacks of a unique feel in it with some of the new ones. Im happy to heard Probe's original sound in the game, but units like Zealot or HT's new lines does feel a bit lacking compared to original. Especially HT. Overlord's new sound is terrible too, with a guy moaning sound, compared to the original which is great.

The lines are bland and mostly are just one liners in the campaign.

The explosion sound effects or any other sound effects, are decent. Some of the sounds like the new Siege Tank sound, i think it's great. Still, the sounds in SC2 is no where close to a CoH quality or BFBC2's bass overdone sound effects. SC2's sounds feels like there is not enough bass.

The graphics is outstanding, i dont see why the sound effects shouldnt get a huge improvement, as sound is still a part of the immersion of the game.

I think, it's more like Blizzard is indeed weak in the sound department, after Starcraft or Diablo. Or Blizzard's competitor have just outdone them by far.

It's not petty hate really, it's just some complaints and discussion.

I liked the game overall so I am no hater.

Didnt think it was a bother to others to have people discussing

if it was just merely complaints and discussion here and there pertaining to the thread title, that is absolutely fine. however, look around, and look at other threads around you, and the snowballing result that spawned more "criticizing" (or as i would prefer it, hating) threads.

if its just one person's problem/fault/opinion (namely mine right here) then obviously it wouldn't be an issue to the rest of the forumers. however, even goldfries himself posted a notion against it and there are other forumers not just me in the same agreement.

yeah why are you doing here anyways? if you don't hate sc2, wouldn't it be better if you just play sc2 instead of beating that dead horse over and over again?
