Before we start, grab your phone and your computer and hit this link : Android apps by jakeey, wallpaper.  If you have any of these applications on your Android phone, uninstall them.

We'll wait.

Now you ask why did we recommend (nay, demand!) you uninstall any of those apps?  Lookout says that one or more of these apps are stealing your data and sending it to an unknown person or persons in China.  Yup, innocent looking wallpaper apps.  According to Lookout, the app(s) in question are collecting:

    * browsing history
    * text messages
    * your SIM card data
    * subscriber ID
    * voicemail password

Look for Google to pull these soon, as they potentially affect at least 1.1 million users, but for now remember to read what an app can do when you install it. That's that screen you ignore every time you install an app. The one that tells you what system permissions the app has access to. If, say, a calculator wants to see your contacts list, think twice.

It's worth reminding that Android is the only OS that gives you these sort of warnings. And before any Apple fanatics get too cocky, at least these apps aren't stealing money from your Google checkout account.  We're keeping a close eye on this one, you'll hear more as it unfolds.

i downloaded an aquarium trial version that seems like need a reboot of the phone to install properly. I used it for about 1 week until it expired so I uninstalled it. Luckily it is not one the of "bad" program.

Next time can only download and install apps that are more popular and recommended by other users to be safe. Most imporatanly, look at the system resources it will access to before clicking the install button. sweat.gif

thankfully android is not mainstream yet, (and hopefully never will be).

at least de damage now is limited to the techno-geeks/nerds who knows how to handle cyber-attacks like this.
can u imagine if it's launch into the general population?

that's why for consumer phones, iphone and iOS system is perfect. even though the geeks will complain there is less "freedom" but majority of users are already delighted with the power of the iPhone.

while one person has brought up that app store has been compromised, but he/she failed (maybe on purpose) to highlight, is that once such attacks happen, the whole power of the apple engineers and technical specialists will react and plug de hole and save de day.

but for android??? what abt it???

for sure, more attacks like these will come. after all, it IS the battle of nits.

of course. pls read and try to understand b4 replying or else u will end up with rotten egg on ur face.

security cannot be guaranteed especially when it is in public domain.
but the way apple reacted with its full might and swiftness of lighting ensured that everythg's perfect again.

unfortunately, androidevelopers are like loose band of ragtag ragamuffins, without organized leadership.
just like headless chicken running around.
so it is difficult to respond properly like how apple does it so elegantly.
