Hi,

I just joined the Unifi Club after much waiting and suspense and research on this very forum. You guys are providing great info here.

Anyway I used to be on Streamyx with 2 WRT54GL running DD-WRT (one running as a wireless bridge). Now I’m forced to use the Dlink 615 and I can immediately tell that during heavy sessions funny things happen. i.e. wireless would drop and after dropping I think the internal routing table gets screwed up.

Give you an example: I have a Media center box on Win 7 down staris on 192.168.0.106 initially I can RDP to the box from my PC upstairs after about 10 minutes of torrent traffic the wifi would drop and after reconnecting I will not be able to connect to my Media center via RDP. When I ping 192.168.0.106 I get no response from 192.168.0.103 (which does not exist), funny…

Anyway I’m keen to rid myself of the Shocking Orange DIR-615 and to even go back to my slower but super stable WRT54GL’s. Plus I really like the IPTV service.

I found this product:

http://www.netgear.com/products/business/s...hes/GS105E.aspx

Which would could be an alternative to the RB250GS as it also seems to have VLAN segmentation as well as monitoring. I intend to look at the documentation from netgear to see if setting up VLANs on this switch is as straightforward.

Other than the issue I face above, Unifi is fast, and I’m generally happy…. For now

I identified that product a while back but they're rather hard to find and have to be configured using a Windows based application I believe. RB250GS uses a web interface so any OS can configure it through the network without issues.

Thanks rizvanrp,

Looks like my Unifi nightmare has started... As I write this I have restarted the Dlink 6x already each time after about 5 minutes it drops internet connection (the green globe turns to orange)... so much so I'm going to coin this the "Orange Globe of Death" -OGOD!

I have set 5 port forward rules and I think it does not like it.. I have one rule for skype which it particularly does not like and when I make a video call the OGOD appears!!

OK count me in for a RB250GS!

My dlink has been down for 4 days now called TM a total of 8 times already. Everytime they tell me it depends on the field techs availibility.

Sincey streamyx has been cancelled I have no Internet. Falling back on tethered 3G just to get some transactions done.

I'm really frustrated. Since I have this 5 days and 4 days it is not working. This is a nightmare.

Sorry for venting out my frustrations here.

I would not touch Dlink with a 10 foot pole after having one die on me after just one+ day!!!

A lot of us here know exactly how you feel. As I said to the TM tech who came over to replace mine a couple of weeks back, unless a more reliable router is found to replace the current DIR 615, they are going to be VERY busy

Thanks

It is strangely comforting and worrying at the same time knowing that this problem is so common.

Rizzy, you're a real champion in I'm view, looking at possible alternatives at the same time always thinking of alternatives!!

Hi Guys and Gals,

TM Finally replaced the faulty DIR-615 yesterday and I immediately used rivvanrp's instructions to set the dlink as a VLAN Bridge to bridge to my trusty Linksys WRT54GL running DD-WRT.

So far so good and I think running it like this will hopefully make the Dlink last longer as it no longer has to do the heavy task of routing AND pumping all that IPTV packets.

BTW my BTU / GPon unit is upstairs and my IPTV is downstairs. I used homeplugs to connect to my IPTV downstairs and it works very well!

Huawei BTU[LAN1] ---> [WAN]DIR-615 <TM Firmware, but set as VLAN Bridge> [LAN3] ---> [WAN] Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT [LAN/WiFi] ---> PC's
DIR-615 <TM Firmware> [LAN4<RED Port>] ----> [HL110E Homeplug x2] ---> IPTV STB
