I just signed up Unifi today. May be in 2 weeks someone gonna drill my house......

Well I cannot really stand the ping time the streamyx offer. It is really pathetic. Hopefully Unifi is a lot better.

After my 1st post in which I was trying to get my DD-WRT54GL WAN-Router to work with the HUAWEI modem, wasted 8hours on it to get it working. Not too sure what seems to be the problem it with it, can't even get connect to the WAN connection with and without the VLAN tagging on 500. Maybe my WAN PPPOE is broken :S the router is pretty old...

So I've decided to get a new router and see if I can get some result out of it.

Anyone has any recommendation on which router to get?

or should I get any of these models below:-

RT-NL12 from Asus **
TL-WR1043ND from TP-Link **
or
WRT160NL from Linksys
DIR-825 from DLink

Looking thru what rizvanrp has been posting, I will try my best for sure shared my adventures after getting my dd-wrt setup with everyone here. Of course with everyone patience as well.

Some area near border of supported area but will not listed. For most accurate confirmation is to contact them and let them know your exact location.

Why not a router that could do VLAN and try replace the DIR615 all together? I'm still looking for the router that could do that actually... don't mind to test, if it fails can just convert to become bridge router as per the guide...

I don't have much space for any more power socket with extension for my electronic devices, that is one of the point in getting a new router to support the FTTH unit.

Also I have a habit of not sharing one power point with more then 4 electrical devices on it tongue.gif, will go home and see if I can get my WRT54GL to work with the FTTH unit again.

Unifi is alot better in ping times as i testes but the router they give is the bad thing. Ping in flying spaghetti monster dota can be like 0, 15, 15ms and speedtest ping is 7-30 ms which is miles better then streamyx which gives me 90 ping

Been using for 1 week now, online gaming, BT, internet & IPTV all so far so good, the DIR-615 working as VLAN also seem to be ok.
Except for the STB LED display which didn't display correctly, called them on Friday night and was immediately replaced with a new unit the next day morning 10am, customer care even called twice to confirm it's ok, honestly I'm quite impressed with UniFi service, hope TM continue to uphold such a rapid support rclxms.gif

Also been trying to replace the DIR-615 with other router, unfortunately still not working, here's my testing scenario:

Equipment: ASUS RT-N12 [Broadcom base]

Test 1 - Stock standard firmware 1.0.0.6 [come with it]
PPPoE cannot connect at all, it said something like no response.

Test 2 - download from ASUS and update firmware to 1.0.0.7 [beta]
Still the same problem, PPPoE cannot connect....

Test 3 - flashed with dd-wrt BrainSlayer R14815 16Jul10 firmware, setup as follows:

Still, PPPoE cannot connect at all .... cry.gif

i think you need to throw a hub in between and test.. and capture the packet flow and see is it really tagging at vlan500

cause i heard ddwrt vlan tagging got some "kecacatan"

Describe "Bad thing" you experience in the router. I hope u dont mean the "bad" router adding significant ping time, as i do not see this often happen.

The ping time I mentioning here is oversea.

@ klseet
Try reboot the router. It will turn back to VLAN1. Not VLAN1.500
I got two DD-WRT router which is Linksys WRT160N and Asus RT-N12.
Same issue which is for Linksys, I set to VLAN2.500. Reboot and turn back VLAN2.

As suggested by bro rizvanrp, maybe u can try on manually set the command at the Startup command in DD-WRT. Not yet try for this.
But FYI. If u replace w your router, you will sacrifice your IPTV.

Ok, will get a hub and test it again.

Yes, I noticed the dd-wrt always revert back to VLAN1 once the router reboot, really don't know why....
May be we should re-assign WAN to another VLAN?

Actually the ASUS RT-N10 or N12 stock standard firmware does has an option to assign which LAN port for IPTV, I was hoping it can work so can just replace DIR-615 ....

I must admit I'm just a junior dd-wrt user, I really don't know how to "capture the packet flow" and "manually set the command" blush.gif sweat.gif
Hope to get more help here for further testing notworthy.gif

im using back streamyx at the moment. I think i'm the only one who had the shortest lifespan (less than 3 hours) of the DIR 615 router

apparently, tmnet is planning to have a new router "soon" according to the technician i spoke to during the installation process

When they replace your router, you may even get a used one (like in my case). I had some other unifi user's login combination saved in mine when I got it.
