And then there are 6 phone sockets in my houses. I guess it is pretty much become useless after I install Unifi and cancel regular phone line?

No i heard some1 actually wire 1 RJ15 line from their fiber modem to 1 of the sockets in your house and all will work as normal. but i pretty sure u need to cut your landlines first before doing this. Also u can buy additional cordless phone put around the house but does not need a socket each as it connects wireless to your main base set. Also the DECT phone TM gives is GPA compatible so u can register different brands of phone to the base set not only Panasonic.

so many ppl complain abt the router. should i wait until tm comes up with a new router before i apply?
*
Depends on what u want to do with your internet. Mean while u could try go for 4MB streamyx at the cost of rm140 and still keep your landline number, no drilling more simple then unifi setup.

U get unlimited download but throttled on downloading certain things. It will be like this and TM will come up with new ways of doing it as they give u unlimited cap.
Upload speed is limited to 512
Simple setup mean u can easily use your own router. TM give their ADSL router as well but didnt hear much problems with it.

Unifi on the other hand
Currently unlimited in future some sorta limitation will be put no1 know what yet.
Ping is very excellent 7MS good for gaming, skype
Upload + Down is same speed so 5 Mb both directions
very poor CS if u get problems with this unifi. U get plenty of headache trying to get them to do something. If all is fine u should be ok

One last thing u can go for 4MB streamyx and switch over to unifi when u feel like as its considered an upgrade so u are not tired to any contract. BUT not the other way round or downgrade back to streamyx.

you are referring to the blockbuster deal right? i'm currently using 1mb. so i need to upgrade to 4mb. i believe the contract is 2 years right? can i upgrade to unifi later during these 2 years?
*
Yup a contract of a certain time period with TM means that u cannot totally run away from them during that period of 1 or 2 years. does not mean u have to stay on that all e.g. 4MB all the time and u are able to upgrade to unifi anytime.

Agree with what Calvin said.

If it wasnt my area didnt support Streamyx 4mbps, I would not even consider Unifi for the hussle of drilling especially my house is a 3 storey ones. But then given the ping advantages the Unifi has, I would still be "ok" with the cap they implement in later stage as long as they keep the ping rate quality @ 1st class category.

atm it would seems to me the streamyx is a more matured service until they sorted out the problems in Unifi user is having now.
*
Yup Streamyx 4MB give users a special IP addrress range which other lower package streamyx will not get. this IP is better and fast then those other IP and get better speed to international sites. Just like unifi also another special range of IP. i think is because of your IP range they give u which makes the difference in ping time not the actual technology just because its fiber better then copper but not too sure on that some1 correct me if u think otherwise. in the UK i use ADSL 2+ 20Mb speed getting 17Mb and ping is around 20 in comparison to streamyx with 90 ping

smash the router  shocking.gif  sweat.gif
Mind to share how? tongue.gif

Anywhere, does the 1 year warranty start from the replacement date or still stick to the registration date?
If start from the replacement date, I'm pretty sure we'll "make it" life-time warranty liao..... tongue.gif

What have you done?? shocking.gif
Did you actually follow Pr0di9y's instruction or not?
Did you backup the original setting somewhere before you start to configure anything?

Aiyoh, before you call TM, perhaps you should restore the original setting first ... sweat.gif
*
No i am pretty sure not. its a standard practice that warranty cover from they day u buy or get the product.

So mesti guna lagi kuat-kuat-kuat hopefully it die and keep replace until we get the stable-one  flex.gif tongue.gif

Nono what i mean is it will cover from the day u got unifi till one year. so during that 1 year u can replace broken one as required.

That's what I thought. So until I get clearance (and an extra plug point) to use rizvanrp's guide, I'll be pushing my DIR615 till it breaks, and then get on the hook to TM, and repeat till they finally come out with a model that DOESN'T suck.
*
My 3rd router now and this 1 seems good for over a week no crash nothing. working like what i expect it to. i just hope it be like this for a long long time.

1 more thing i have a feeling TM will come out with new package of unifi maybe few more month or a year with higher speed since the system can support alot more speed then 20Mb. also the 5mb might be replaced by 10 at the same price. just like block buster deal in comparison to 1mb 88 streamyx. TM wants as many people on fiber as possible as the spend the money to build the system

+1 Well said  rclxms.gif Vote for no cap !
*
No cap = Throttled like 4MB streamyx.
no cap also mean certain people will download several TB a month.

Ok, i see, what will be the cap per day or cap per month?

2 hours movie in DVD dual layer is approx. 8.5 GB, if you watching average 4 hours internet TV per day alone without PC internet, that will be approx. 17GB per day.

Monthly will be 510GB per month or 0.5 TB per month.
Correct me if I am wrong from the above assumption ?
*
Cap only on internet. nothing else counted not TV not phone. and only download from international sources not upload

How much installation charges will be impose by TM after 16th Sep 2010?
*
at least 300. But i have a feeling they might not do this and so call extend the promotional period. its common sense that putting an installation fee will just put people off subscribing and it will be a waste wiring up the national when little people use it. if they already wire up your street why make it difficult for people. but yet again i do not know wat TM is up to BTW

Hi everybody,
Subscribe to the VIP5 plan but have some nagging questions abt unit set-up. Is is possible to separate the fiberhome , DIR165 unit and the IPTV console from one another with long cables. If possible , what sort of cables is required?

The reason is i prefer  to have the  DIR165 unit in the room upstairs, wired to PC and cables to the rest. Ask UNIFI but they said technition would access on site visit which I believe it's too late by then to discuss set up.

From the forum, i read it's possible to use your old copper wiring for existing phone lines with with cable attachement to phone line socket, in order to reuse all your phone sockets. Is this abt right?

I hope some be able to help  elleviate my concerns  abt this.
*
Not very sure wat u want out of your VIP5 not clear to me. but anyways u can use your old phone socket for phone only purpose after its disconnected, just plug 1 tel line from your fiberhome into 1 of your house sockets. The fiber home socket must stay where it is as u cannot extend your fiber cables on your own but they do give u few meters i guess that it. if u want move your dir 615 u can try using those home plug ethernet to link it to move it to other parts of the house this uses your electric cabling to transfer data.

About same as mine..
I also always get packet loss. Already called customer support, sent them the screen shot of the results. Don't know how they will troubleshoot the problem.
*
I don understand how can there be packet loss when i am using pure fiber. Attenuation should be extremely low as this is the main reason why fiber is use over copper but still data being lost on the way some where. But maybe it could be from its IP core system in other words their main central system. yet again this should not be the case. Problematic for dota (flying spaghetti monster) and skype.
