Currently I contact my home alarm system direct to my copper phone line. What can I do after install Unifi and discontinue my fix line phone service? Do I need to keep my exiting fix line phone?
*
It is very simple, disconnect the TM line from your junction box, then plug in the RJ11 telephone cable from "Tel" 1 port at your BTU to one of the telephone wall socket. All other wall sockets connected to it (including your alarm system) will now be on VOIP. It works for me.

That's a very good question, I hope others in a similar situation will be able to give better insight into the matter. I guess alternative is to apply for a separate line for your home alarm system.
*
As I have posted earlier, you just need to plug a RJ11 (normal telephone cable) from the "Phone 1" port at your BTU to one of your telephone wall socket, that will make your whole house wall sockets connected to the VOIP, including your alarm system. It is just that simple, it works for me.

Someone posted in V5 that he cannot install VIP20 because the signal strength in the DB (green dustbin) is only 24dB, wonder has it been resolved. I am subscribing to VIP5 now and my installer told me mine is 20dB at DB and he said it is good signal strength already (measure 19dB at home end), so does it mean I cannot upgrade to VIP20?

Called unifi total 5 times. 5times different person answered. Same question ask but 5 different answers.

- Area not cover
- Already cover but not ur block
- already cover but not ur unit
- Already cover but no server in ur block
- already cover but no infra

Last call make ask them to check and clarify then give me confirm answer. They said need 2 weeks time to check only can give me confirmation answer

The service person was good. But not informative enough. Not blame the service person but i think the management have to get serious about it.

Can't believe TM still provide such an "Impressive" service.  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Wow, you still haven't got a confirmation till today? That's too much. At least they should give you a definite answer whether it is available to you or not.

I have used VIP5 for 2 weeks now, so far so good. Except I have IPTV down last night, don't know is it a UNIFI problem or router problem. After a while, it came back by itself rclxub.gif

I have a question here. To determine if our house can support Unifi or not is it by looking at the pole behind our house if it has the white box with TM word on it?
*
they are 2 types, the other one is underground, that one you look for a green dustbin like housing in front of your house.

Hi all,

Want to ask if i can use wifi dongle to plug into the IPTV set-top-box without connect to the Ethernet slot of the router/modem ? Would i be able to still watch the IPTV channel ?

Reason of being ask is so that i can watch the IPTV using wireless wifi network. Thx
*
I don't think you can use a WIFI dongle as if I understand correctly the USB port on the STB is not functioning, moreover, WIFI may not be stable enough for IPTV especially the HD channels. Many here including me have successfully using Homeplug to connect to IPTV, I believe this is a better option.

Thanks for yr reply akerue. Btw, can i know what is a homeplug mean ?
It is like a normal power plug with ethernet jack to plug in your CAT5 cable. It uses your electric line at home to transmit signal. Try to google Homeplug and you should find plenty of information.

And then there are 6 phone sockets in my houses. I guess it is pretty much become useless after I install Unifi and cancel regular phone line?
*
As I posted earlier, just plug a telephone cable from your BTU VOIP jack to one of your wall telephone socket, that will connect all your existing telephone sockets to the UNIFI VOIP line, even including your alarm system if any.

how do I connect the STB to BTU or DIR-615 which are located at 1st floor?
Use a pair of homeplug, many in this forum have used it and it works for me well.

Just make sure the pair of plugs are on the same phase of your home electrical circuit.

If you are worried about having too many plugpoints, go for the HL109EP model.

FYI, Aztech, the maker of the Homeplug, has since launched a gigabit version of the homeplug
*
I think Aztech homeplug can work on different phase as well. My house is 3-phase but I have tried in different power points and they all work.
Don't buy the Gigabit version yet, it has manufacturing defects. Aztech said they are working on it and new batch should solve the issue. The current batch making very irritating humming noise rclxub.gif
Anyway, IPTV only need 8 Mbps even for HD channel, so the 200 Mbps homeplug should be fine.

Where did you connect your home plug, DIR 615 or BTU? but you only get 10/100 Mbps though a 200Mbps homeplug ?
*
You need a pair of homeplug, one at your DIR 615 connected to LAN4 which is reserved for IPTV, the other one at STB. True, if you use the 200 Mbps you get 10/100 Mbps ethernet connection, but that is good enough for IPTV already. I think you can get like 20-50 Mbps through this homeplug if your line is clean. I am using the Gigabit Homeplug myself, I think I am connecting between 80 to >100 Mbps because my homeplug switch between 10/100/1000 and 10/100 (blue LED and green LED), although 70% of the time it stays at Gigabit.

I managed to completely take away the TM's DIR615 from the network. My solution as follows:

BTU -> RB250GS @Port 5 -> STB IPTV
...........RB250GS @Port 4 -> My Old Router

The RB250GS is Mikrotik 5 Ports Gigabit Manage Switch. I get it from Singapore at USD39.95 + about USD17.00 postage from Singapore to KL. After receive it, you have to upgrade the firmware to version 1.2, every things look fine. I think this is one of the cheap solution to get a stable network with IPTV and Internet. :-)

Good news, congrats. Can you share the method with some of us who is less technical savvy? icon_question.gif

Last time we checked, they only bring in RB750's @ RM310 which is a full router. We only need a smart switch biggrin.gif
*
So, if I purchase the RB750, does it mean that I still can do what you have written, and can do it without additional router? i.e. RB750 = RB250 GS + Router?

What if I sacrifice the STB, I put everything in my room so I use back Ethernet cable. Do you guys think this is stupid?
ps: And this is very important question. If I off the BTU, will the phone work?
*
Don't need to sacrifice STB, just use a pair of homeplugs to connect to your STB.
No, if you turn off BTU, phone will not work.

Due to this, I just called and cancelled the order.

Stick back to streamyx with VPN is better for me I guess.

It is not an issue for me, I just leave my BTU on all the time.

Same here, the reception suxx where I live. Adjust aerial to get one channel clear, another goes snowy doh.gif

With IPTV, all channels are now crystal clear and my mum's loving it! My wife's even been playing with the VOD. Too bad TM don't sell STBs as an option for subscribers who want more than 1 unit at home
Yup, I also wanted to buy 1 more STB for downstair to be connected by homeplug, unfortunately they don't sell it sad.gif
