If I'm down to those 2 choices, I'll buy the Nexus S.

^ i believe they have identical GPUs.

If so then you're wrong. SGS has a PowerVR SGX540 while the Nexus S has SGX535(If im not mistaken). The GPU In the Nexus S is the same as the iPhone 4. The one in the SGS is almost twice as powerful as the one in Nexus S

If so you've been mistaken.

The noticeable difference I can see is skin and NFC, and microSD slot.

lol i won't call 0.6FPS difference 'twice as powerful'. Those differences can be safely considered normal experimental datas. Even on a Desire Z I get FPS scores on the Neocore benchmark ranging from 55 to 59 FPS.

And there're a lot of conflicting reports of whether it's SGX 540 or 335.

Oh yeah here's a little reading material from XDA, with link to a teardown confirming the GPU in Nexus S is SGX 540.

if you read the link you quoted of me, you would've read that it's common to have labeling mistakes internally, meaning the kernel has (and already confirmed by a google employee, in that same link you quoted of me) and might have some typos regarding specs if read electronically. The actual model of GPU is carved onto the GPU itself, and as googled by an XDA member in the link you quoted of me, it returns back as SGX 540.

And you answered your own question, that the 0.6 FPS difference is due to benchmark not optimised on 2.3 yet.

I wouldn't call the Desire S a proc and GPU 'upgrade' because it is essentially still using the same processor as the Desire HD (MSM 8255 + Adreno 205), unless if you're referring to the original Desire. It would, however qualify as a complete package with that secondary camera and Android 2.3.

Difference seem to be the display type and RAM, and internal storage.

^front facing camera and flash does not play well with your Rm2K budget.

Rule of thumb is that the latest greatest phones will never be priced below Rm2K when first launched.

'high spec' phones in the market now will be 'mid spec' in 2 months' time. Now is really not the best time to buy phones, unless you won't have heart pain when the new phones come out.

Incredible S is probably the best phone somebody looking for an android can buy, for less than Rm2K, at the moment.

If the spec is good, there is no worry in getting dev support for HTC phones. Good rule of thumb is to start buying after a certain dev has bought it.
