I noticed that there are many android phones out there and more are coming up very very soon.
So, to get some feedback from people, I created this thread so that people can compare phone to phone. So, do give some feedback especially those who owns the phones on what makes you decide to take one but not another! smile.gif
do post up some of your views on why you choose 1 and not the other.
Now, first up~

best price at time of posting: HTC desire : RM1800(AP) rm2100(SIS)
Samsung Galaxy S : RM1800(AP) rm2200(SME)

note: the price is just a rough guideline and they changes everyday.

I've had HTC (WM) phones so I was not keen to go for another HTC. Hence my recent purchase of the SGS. I just wanted to enjoy 4 inches of Super AMOLED goodness! smile.gif

i wanted to add polls too, but then, it would be model specific already. this thread will change the comparison between model from time to time(if the feedback is good). that means, for now, it's desire vs Galaxy S, maybe next time will have some other contender smile.gif

Added on July 23, 2010, 10:22 ami forgot that i didn't state my view on those phones...
hahaha...
now im more or less neutral on those 2 models.
why would i go for Desire, the smoothness of the UI and HTC sense.
why would i go for Galaxy S, the smoothness in application and the superb screen.

and some points to ponder, some of the points might be the reason some do not want a particular phone, now, let's see...

size: galaxy S has a larger and longer size, so a person with a relatively small hand will have issue touching on the top of the screen and the bottom of it. sliding in and out of pocket should not be an issue since both are pretty much the same in pocket.

touch and feel: galaxy S feels...plastic. HTC feels better and it has curved corners. but some people like the smooth feel of plastic smile.gif . who am i to judge.hahaha biggrin.gif

optical trackball: now...i doubt people will use that very often except to look at the notifications. HTC's trackball provides colour notification(you'll need to root it though for different colours) when you have a misscall, sms, notification, there will be light emitting from the optical trackball to let you know of it without turning on your phone screen.

camera: although galaxy S lack of flash, but that does not remove it from the competition, and it actually perform better in this section. since we are talking about flash, you can use desire's LED flash to act as a flash light too... oh before i forget, galaxy S can record 720p videos by default and it has a front facing camera for video calls.

battery: galaxy wins this... but desire can still last a day with moderate use.

hmm...that's about it.

IMO, hardware-wise, SGS wins it (apart from the cheap housing). Desire gets the edge on software as SenseUI just blow Touchwiz apart.

If you ask me which one I'd choose, I'll go for SGS. But that's only because I have an N1. tongue.gif

Currently i am using Nexus one, I would vote for SGS cos it's awesome.
16gb + front camera + 4" Super Amoled is the reason what i hope my N1 got.

The screen, the screen, and the, errm, screen? Big, bright super friggin' amoled. Oh yah, one more thing: SGS suports Divx whistling.gif out of the box, no need for third party software.

Without root or FroYo, you'll find that the Desire's internal memory a huge annoyance. It also doesn't have the front camera, and the People app is buggy. Other than that great phone. No idea about SGS.

lol...i will choose hTc desire due to HTC sense and the housing itself...after holding samsung galaxy S i feel like holding a plastic.nothing luxury at all...
eventhough the screen is super amoled ..due to the camera itself Samsung win ....smile detection and much more...built in memory 8gb,alot of it come in pack..so not need worry
but htc desire got more rom to play..i can port to nexus one..so it like having 2 phone.

My reasons for choosing the SGS over the Desire:
1. The screen alone is to die for; both in dimension and quality. I can't really explain it here, you need to do yourself a favor and see it with your own eyes.
2. 16GB built-in for all you pack rats.
3. The Quake 3 demo showing the SGS smoking the Desire sealed it for me.

What I'm not crazy about:
1. Can we say iPhone ripoff? From the phone design to the TouchWiz interface. I can (with much difficulty) overlook this, but I wished Samsung recognized the potential of their phone and took the design in a different direction.
2. The optical trackpoint on the Desire is great. On the SGS, all we get is a cheapo button. Makes selecting text feel like looking for the Higgs-Boson with a magnifying glass - impossible.
3. Build quality has more plastic than a Chinese toy factory. Not a fan especially coming from a Nokia E-Series.
