Yup, previously I have mentioned that Nokia has long abondon the ship, everything is up to the community.

Problem is, many people don't know where to find the software and app, and have little knowledge about smartphone and they claim the N900 is not powerful. Maybe those people are looking for great camera, so if camera not good = not powerful. Or some people looking for multi-touch, so no multi-touch = not powerful, or apps, etc. They totally get the wrong meaning of powerful.
*
so most of the apps and supports are from http://talk.maemo.org/ only? unsure.gif

Usually if u are not sure its best to get iphone or android. Because everyday ppl will brain wash u here and there.

Its like u have a sniper rfile. If u do not know how to use or handle the sniper rifle is useless cant even kill anything.
If u pass it to a professional they can even kill someone from a mile away or even at close range.

Good luck mate.

This just my opinion no offense. I got n900 and have no regrets even i have an iphone now
*
ah, thing is i dun have the chance to play with a unit of n900 now~ so i not sure how this maemo5 is like~
i may not be as geeky like u guys here on this n900~ but i am an engineer graduate~ just that~ i have stop into gadgets for sometime so a bit blur on maemo5~ blush.gif so i hope i pickup the right mobile device to start picking things up again~

Actually i have zero experience in maemo or even linux too. Because i get n900 not because my friend say whether its good or not because i know whats N900 is capacble of.

First decide what you want by deciding what the purpose you are buying for.  If stop gadget for a long time better get iphone because Maemo is for more advance user. if u expect for super graphics, alot of games and etc etc u wont find it here. If u looking for exploring, testing new application, customizing, hacking, cracking, have something different Nokia n900 is for u
*
ah~ i hate iphone~ period~ tongue.gif

so i assume~ the maemo5 in the n900 doesnt come with chinese support in sms writing or reading? need apps or plugins? blush.gif

for me N900 isn't that perfect....reason: N900 is great at internet but poor on normal phone call section....nokia didn't make it balance....for me i said N900 isn't good enough cos i'm more on phone call than internet.....different story if opposite
*
glad to hear that~ thats my purpose of having a secondary mobile device for 3G mobile internet~ phone calls will still be on my n86 on maxis line~
after i read up some review~ the n900 looks good for mobile internet~ but my concern~ how is the n900 future support? flash 10.1? and etc? blush.gif

You can always check YouTube for walkthrough guide on the phone OS and features, how it look like, etc. When I want to buy the N900, it was not even available in Malaysia yet, not even AP set. Some people bring it in and selling for > RM3K... I check out everything from YouTube, how the OS look like, how the messaging look like, etc. I got hooked because it's totally different from any smartphone out there, it's outstanding, nothing can come close.
When some companies start it bring it in, it's still around RM2.4K ~ RM 2.6K, and not long after, lowyat.net AP seller start selling around RM2.2K.

I guess you can check out this review, which will tell you the pros and cons, and finally the end about the powerful features of the phone. It also mentioned about the type of users that is not suitable to use this phone:

As per previous mentioned, Nokia has abandon the ship, there may be updates, but might take long time and mostly probably bug fixing? They're concentrating on MeeGo now, Maemo is their sort of testing ground.
Might as well check out the community which they really have done A LOT and provide many missing features, customization to the OS. There're so many things that you will NOT find in any smartphones today, this is a tablet (in short, think about a NOTEBOOK with TOUCHSCREEN, shrink down to the size of a handphone).

No news about Flash 10; Nokia is being very cunning and confidential, they don't allow Adobe to give out any information and they themselves also don't want to say anything. But from the supported list, they mention Symbian and MeeGo, no mentioned of Maemo...

By default N900 can support Chinese test, you can read Chinese. For Chinese input, there is 3rd party apps for it. It was launch in HK by the way, so it has to have Chinese support.
If you check out the launching in HK and other country (go google or YouTube), you will see their country's Nokia is FAR FAR better than ours, see how they promote and how much they understand the product.
*
yeah, and for now only RM1.3k for the AP set~ i am so tempted to get one by this weekend~ no other phone come this close even those price more than 2k~

but after watching this review ---->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7qzalgFTAU

so it doesnt support google map or even Garmin mobileXT~ hmmmm~ what about standalone MSN apps? or ported version of MSN from PC? i prefer that~ tongue.gif

If i start showing u everything its better i charge u a fee i do a manual with photos for you, summary, bar charts of device comparison, List of tasks n900 capable to do vs other devices, start up a chat room to answer every question. hehe right or not. Please understand we are users not sellers even shop cant give u info as detail as us.

The screenshot is to show u the n900 homescreen only. After u get the n900 u might have other complains like where to get this where to get that. Thats the time to ask. I think if u do this to a shop even the shop wont entertain you.

Hope you understand its like you go to shop ask 500 questions then later buy something else do u think the shop be happy?

Buy it then they will be willing to answer all your details question before buy are summary details. Same like us buy it then only ask detailed question or else u keep coming back tell us your friends telling u something else is better

I am not trying to be rude but i just want to be honest  icon_rolleyes.gif  like all of us said no matter what we said u wont understand until u use the device.
Just my opinion
*
i truly understand that~ no worries~ cheers~ cheers.gif

but pls forgive my excitement asking this n that~ coz i am working outstation now~ so i have to wait till weekends when i am back to kl and drop by these mobilephone shops to get a unit for my own~ just too much excitement in me after google around reading reviews and watching youtubes for n900~ paiseh~ blush.gif

of coz, i do hope u guys can be patient with me and answer some of my questions regarding is this n that possible to do in the maemo5 on the n900~ coz if it cant fulfil my needs then no point getting the n900 oso mar~ hope u guys understand in my own shoe oso~ sweat.gif

Hehe u also must understand our own shoes we are users not sellers.

Users - learn to improve device experience after purchase
Seller- must know how to sell the product and answer before purchase & after service

after u have the device in your hand when we reply/share the information it also become valuable to others as well. I wanted an n900 it was first announce.

Nokia n900 is not a smartphone its a tablet with phone capability. Ppl keep getting confuse and compare n900 with a smartphone.

No worries i am also sharing as well i dont hope u make the wrong decision. Actually we can do assist you to make decision all you need to do is list down what do u want to use the phone for. We can immediately tell you whether n900 is suitable for u.
*
ah~ i miss that out~ tongue.gif

okay my quick check list~

since this is my secondary mobile device on my new digi line~ so very minor phone calls or sms~

main purpose will be 3G mobile internet~

- emails
- facebook (and photo sharing on the move)
- MSN (i not sure how the IM feature integrated into the maemo5 phonebook contacts but i would prefer standalone apps like how MSN mobile in symbian and other OS, which works quite similar to the full version MSN in windows PC, such as support chatrooms and etc)
- twitter apps
- foursquare apps
- online banking
- GSC/TGV e-ticketing
- GPS (i still use the Garmin MobileXT on my n86 occasionally when i got lost)

thats the main purpose lar~ other extra apps and features sure a bonus for me lar~ i like the maemo5 layout~ its darn cool~ tongue.gif

so is n900 suitable for me? i know i will do some basic customisation on maemo5 to suite my style too~ wink.gif

So far, no good GPS app for Malaysia. There's Sygic but the mao is very dated. Since this is your 2nd phone, I think the GPS may not be one of the important thing for you since you can have alternatives on your 1st phone?

Fir standalone MSN app, there's aMSN which is Desktop version, but it takes up a lot of resources. There's other 3rd party app which allows you to connect to other IM accounts.
I can tell you straight that you might be better off forget about 3rd party app. Just use the Conversations, it's so much easier, no need to purposely open the program, then click sign in. Then need to switch around, etc.
With the built-in conversations, when you're online, all your accounts can be online and you can see your friend's status in your contact book, it's a lot better really.
Besides, you can place Contacts on your desktop, then you can see their IM status as well. No need to purposely start an app, sign in, and check through one by one.
You can also read the review from ShaolinTiger, very well written, as below he posted:
*
ah ic~ so i guess msn not much a prob~ either using the builtin or 3rd party~ if so let me get the phone n i'll use whichever suit me best~ thx~

as for GPS~ yea~ the n86 can do well with garmin~ but only complain~ screen a little small~ but not an important factor lar~ since i only use it occasionally only~ tongue.gif
