its quite simple.

you just need to make sure D+ and D- are connected (short circuited) on the side leading to the micro usb port.

i know how that feels.

Example i recommend other brand with better specification the person just insist the brand. I said why he/she just say thats what he/she likes. Even for the same price or less he/she will insist that brand no matter what. Its their choice

Yup, better let them choose what they like. If they bought it because you suggested it, then they will blame you for any problems or if they regret. Besides, because it's not their choice, they usually won't put their heart on the thing, won't spend time to learn, etc. In the end, they blame everything on you.

However, there're some people that are different and they will learn to appreciate and love the thing.

From what I know, there're many Anti-Nokians in Malaysia. Back then, when there isn't much choices around, these people usually jump to SE devices and most of them won't look back, even though the reason they jump is no longer valid (e.g. Sound Quality, Camera, which used to be the strength of SE). It's a fashion/brand thingy, it's a Sony.

Thank you for you brief explanation notworthy.gif

It really helps me to give him some idea on which phone to use.. I think he might go for Android (SGS) since he's quite particular with apps and videos.
As for me.. both N900 and SGS are great phones hehehe thumbup.gif

Malaysian mindset:

Nokia = cheap, slow, reliable, uncool.
SE = great music player, good design, great camera.
BB = free messaging (while conveniently ignoring BIS fees), cool and hip (in which dimension really?).
Android = that sexay new shiny thang.
iPhone = answer to all global problems, including world hunger and the kitchen sink. Extremely smexy to boot.

Although nowadays, amongst my friends, I have to fend off more BB fanboys and girls compared to iPhone and Android ones lol.

@drexar: the SGS is a great phone, but has a wonky AGPS system that simply refuses to work (read = gps is broken. Totally). It SHOULD be corrected with the next firmware update, but Samsung is NOTORIOUS for firmware delays (YES, even more then Nokia really).

never thought that Malaysians still think that Nokia phones are cheap and uncool. Maybe due to Symbian, which most Malaysian think are out dated..

Even the price are dropping very fast blink.gif

Say whatever you want about symbian, but symbian does work without issues most of the time & application + device firmware supports are plenty out there.
Of course Symbian isn't suited for for smartphone os but for normal phone it's fine.

Gurus,

what's the difference between the 2 codes below?
echo 30 > swappiness
echo 30 > /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

It seems I execute one, the other does not change.

Even then, everybody can see that they are in the decline lately and they need a mass market game changer to stay a market leader.

Here's hoping that the N8 would truly be their saviour. I like the plucky Finns and Symbian, what can I say.

But, even though Nokia is slightly slow on the innovation side, they are still MILES better then RIM, which - IMHO - has a plainly RETARDED R&D dept for such a supposedly "smart" (and disgustingly popular) series of devices. It has been YEARS and Blackberries are still what they were a few years ago with no real revolutionary advancement.

Sorry. Had to vent lol. My BB worshipping friends are driving me a bit mad.
At least Nokia played around with strange ideas and came up with oddities like the N95, the N-gage (which flopped but was still ahead of its time), the N93, the N91, the E70, the NITs (and Apple thought they INVENTED the mass market internet tablet? Pfft. The Newton was an offline PDA, and that was IT) and a whole lot more.

Yup agree with that.. plus it is not fair to compare N900 with iPad coz they are not in the same category..

u use the 2nd one. Check whether the value is correctly changed by typing

cat /proc/sys/vm/swappiness

it should give out 30 or (100 default).

absolutely, now i am using swappiness 0

as long you dont open up any apps = swap usage stays 0

when i stop my browsing session and close everything up, i disable the swap and enable it again, thus making swap usage 0 again.

there has to be an easier way to do that...

cant find the right combination to make n900 dump all swap back to RAM when apps are close and maintain 0 swap...
