when i switch it on...in the middle of listening...there is a loud explosion sound...a pop sound..then my receiver is muted (i think this is the automatic response of the receiver to protect itself)...it happens frequently...now the occurances are intolaratable..

u guys made fine points there...will try them all...btw..currently i have a media HD player..with it..there is optical cable, which i connect it to my receiver, but there is no sound..no ac3 or dts..no sound at all...should the media player transmit the sound by the optical cable to my receiver? or im missing anything?

Do a Foctory Reset on your amp...refer to the manual book...if you dun have one..download the pdf file.
But you have to set it back again after that

If I'm not mistaken for Sony the Optical is the 'DVD' button...and set it digital in to 'Auto'

dvd player to receiver is ok...it can decode ac3 and dts.....yes..the optical is under dvd..i can see it stated OPT under dvd...thus, the receiver already recognising the connection of the optical cable...will try to reset to factory default, btw what do u mean by setting digital in to "auto"?

page22.

I'm using Sony amp too and use DVD for coaxials...but a read through your manual book say maybe DVD or Video2.
It could also be from your Media player audio setting, try play around with it..I mean PCM, stereo whatever.

Read up the manual..

Cheers

Hope it works out for you  icon_rolleyes.gif

yes...downloaded the manual n read it...it maybe due to my media player..is it possible that...since my media is connected to my lcd tv by hdmi cable..the audio is sent to my lcd tv (my tv produces sound from my media, of coz with its 2 speaker, not surround sound), so the optical cable is redundant in this case? however, the optical cable has the red light....i did change the audio in my media...from ac3 to dts...with no sound from my reciever....in addition, in the manual...it says "all optical and coaxial jacks are compatible with 96kHz,48kHz, 44.1kHz, and 32 kHz sampling frequencies....does this means that ac3 or dts with other that stated frequency will not readable?

anyway, thanks a lot for ur help guys

will do...thanks a lot friend...i'll try to play around the media player..i make an assupmtion that hdmi n optical are good together....but i need to check first..try different scenarios...thanks again..will keep posted if anything

Added on July 21, 2010, 10:35 pmi changed the media player's audio setting to SPDIF RAW, reset my receiver, test every speaker including the subwoofer...all work flawlessly...the SPDIF RAW solved the issue of connectivity between the media player and receiver....n so far no popping sound comes out..now i can enjoy movies with surround sound..hopefully no popping sound later...keep my fingers crossed...anyway thanks a lot guys, especially azbro for the helps...learn few things today..thanks again
