I have just bought a Dell Studio 1557 i7 and am finding that it runs very hot .Although using a external cooler, the core temperature still can hits temps of 85c when running low graphic games.Afrading of the heat will spoil the laptop.Anyone can give solution or suggestion?Or i should send this laptop back

Well, its normal for a S15 to heat up a lot nod.gif..and by means that low graphic games is like what?? hmm.gif..85C is ok, unless the temp heated up till 100C then there's a problem nod.gif

Its the design of the vents making it hard to release heat properly.. causing it to be "trapped" on the system..

If you look at the Studio and Studio XPS systems properly the exhaust vent is blocked by the monitor, reducing the rate of heat transfer out of the system..

Its a quad core, so it should be higher, nothing unusual...

Overheating was my issue last month.
On both of my workstation.

After lots of calls and troubleshooting sessions with Dell engineers, simply cannot wait.
The palm rest not just warm but hot. I could warm my coffee just by putting the mug at the back of the notebook. Both Dell's design and my work environment is to be blamed.

The heatsink for both the cpu and gpu acts like the air-conditioning filter. Filter that traps dust. Stripped mine bare to pieces. And, yes, cannot even see through the heatsink fins. Packed with dust.
Done cleaning both machines. No more overheating problem. No more QX9300 and i7 Extreme runs like an Atom.

And now, monthly visit to a friend's workshop for scheduled cleaning.
Yes, your notebook do need occasional blow job.

Not all people are like you one Dackson tongue.gif...well, Studio15 tends to get pretty hot easily, just like Fantasia explained earlier, the reason why it tends to get hot is because of the lack of designing sad.gif...well, got to live with it tongue.gif

honestly speaking, the chasis of Studio series are designed back in the days of Core 2... and they ve never placed a Core 2 Quad inside before...

Dell probably thinks that the space saved from the mobo can be used for better cooling inside, but obviously the chasis itself is not wee suited for a quad...

Ok you said it was 85C. But after "the engineer fixed it" it hits about 60C. I think that's quite massive an improvement.

Did you mean Idle Temps are 60C? Most i7 laptops have idle temps of at least 50C. Mine could be mid 50s to mid 60s, and during web browsing, 60s to low 70s, but it isn't Studio. But I am planning on buying a Studio XPS 1647.
