I was recommended Marantz SR6004 combined with Mordaunt Short Mezzo series for AV system.

Any feedback on this combination? Is it worth it to upgrade to Marantz SR 7000 series?

Would appreciate comments from sifus here.

Which speaker in particular?

Mezzo 6 for floorstanding
Mezzo 9 for subwoofer
Mezzo 5 for centre
Mezzo 1 for the surround at the back

i'm using this marantz and ms mezzo.... how much were u quoted for mezzo 6? sounds great and not that "attacking". well balanced for music and movies.

should go step by step instead of big bang approach.

start with 2 channels.
then sub.
then surround.
then finally center (or if u have budget, get front and center at the same time).

Front channels and center should match
sub don't need to match brand
surround don't need to match brand

Reason to go in stages because you should put your $ in better front speakers (e.g. 3-5k). next year another 3k for sub.


Contrary to popular believe, it's not 70% of sound goes to center. 70% sound actually goes to front 2 speakers.

Reason: 70% of your content is in stereo (Astro, music, sitcom, tv series, sports, etc). Only 30% of the time you watch movies.

I heard Mezzo 9 as a subwoofer not great............whats the alternative?

My setup is quite similar to your & i use paradigm dsp-3400 sub. I can say it works well with the Mezzo.

Receiver: Marantz SR6003
Centre: Mordaunt Short Mezzo 5 (Cable: Van den Hul CS122)
Front Sides: Mordaunt Short Mezzo 6 (Cables: QED Silver XT)
Surround: Mordaunt Short Carnival 3 (Cables: QED Original)
Subwoofer: SVS PB-12 Plus (Cable: Audioquest)

Am trying to achieve an overall warm sound for music with an emphasis on detailed vocals...

take the biggest leap rightaway and never need to "waste" money in upgrading...



i know it sounds like cocky and elitist advice but i think alot of us in this hobby often look back and wish they waited a bit longer and did their dream set up rather than to have 3 or 4 or 5 versions before reaching their current levels of satisfaction...

I fully agree. Step by step aint gonna be the solution.

How about Onkyo 1007 and Mezzo? Would that work?

Mezzos are entry level speakers. All honesty it's probably not much better than higher end HITBs so don't put your hopes to high if you think you have invested in a high-end audio. Also, the speakers don't fetch quite well in the 2nd hand market due to the fact that they are low end. You may end up losing more when it's time for your upgrade. On the other hand, I have now moved my fronts to rear while i invest in even better fronts with no wastage whatsoever.

Don't fall into the elite or "to impress" trap cos when your visitors goes home after the initial wow boom boom pow factor, it's you who will be enjoying (or disappointed) with what your invested music would offer.

Just sharing my point of view, but hey it's your money, so feel free to spend however you like

hi,i'm also using mezzo series pair with Denon 3310,b4 this i paired it with onkyo 876 but for me the it's too warmth.I like the combination well now.
Have u test monitor audio silver series?

onkyo sound signature is noted for being loud and bright sounding

Onkyo warm ??!! Could it be the EQ Setting had been altered too much to reduce high frequency?

mezzo's is entry level speakers ?? i don't really think so

this will do till the home theater gets finish in couple weeks time...
