I read many of the rooting article but all associate with flashing new firmware. could i just root the SGS in order to get superuser permission without changing the firmware? will all my programs and data stays after rooting?
I've been upgrading firmwares and rooting without any problem. Only issue is, the rooting update that I use will delete all apps and data from my phone. Not sure if there is any rooting procedure that will not wipe the phone. I prefer clean installs, anyway, as most of my data is already in the cloud.P/S - I use the ODIN 'CSC flash' method, not the update.zip method for my rooting process.
Moved from the original I9000DXJF4 to I9000XWJFF, then I9000XWJG1, then I9000XWJG3 and finally now on I9000XWJG5. All rooted with the same LeshaK rooter (from Samdroid forum, I think) file, Superuser_v1_CSC.tar.
