how about 1080p? drool.gif
*
720p yes, 1080p no. i tried both. when try to opening 1080p it just pop up error saying that video is not supported. also, i think it's very hard to get a 1080p movie under 4GB (unless the movie is very very short) which is the max limit (FAT32 limitation) u can transfer at any one time to your internal sd. I'm just lucky happen to have a movie at 3.9gb. lol.

I called Maxis to enquire about any further roadshows, but they said no more for West Coast, only left East Coast, Sabah & Sarawak only. But one guy told me that now their current promotion is discount on Android casing for the phone, but he doesn't seem to know the details. Can anyone shed some light?

TIA smile.gif

I think Samsung will start selling in a few months, because I got Samsung's newsletter for the Samsung Galaxy S Life competition, have to make a video, 3 SGS to be won. In the brochure, the RRP is also RM2599, so get the phone from Maxis + data plan still cheaper than buying from Samsung/other sellers + data plan, unless one doesn't want the data plan, of course.
*
Any smartphone without data plan nowadays are pretty much useless imo, you cant do anything with it. Just a waste, might as well use nokia 1200 laugh.gif
Question, if you choose extra RM50 for data plan, and get it at RM900 cheaper than RRP, isn't it still worth it? After 1 year of using, u only pay extra 12x50=RM600 for the data plan, and the overall price of the phione is still cheaper than RRP.

Hey i have a huge question here,

People have been talking about APN switcher on/off like JuiceDefender, APNDroid, etc etc. All these program do is to switch on/off your APN right? Meaning it's whether you are able to surf internet or not at all.

What i've been wondering is that, is there a program that force 2G connection when the phone is idle/screen is off, such that whatever program that needed to be sync like email, MSN messenger, it will be forced to used the slower GPRS/EDGE speed, which does not matter, because there is no hurry anyway. This will still save our battery a lot and still keep our phone connected at all time. I noticed there's an option to force 2G in settings, so maybe there's a program which can toggle this on/off?

Hey, i've bought an ultra clear screen protector from Clarivue (and it's fantastic) imported from US. But it only comes in a twin pack at USD12.99 or about RM 44. I've applied the first one and have no use for the second one. So who want the other SP? I'll sell it at RM20 inclusive of postage via post express. smile.gif Sharing = cheaper! Info below!

There are widgets you can place on your homescreen which act as shortcuts to the settings page; there you can select to use 2G networks only. There are no widgets that directly toggle between 2G <-> 3G mode. From my (limited) understanding, it's an Android thing. Just search for "2G 3G" in the marketplace. You're right about JuiceDefender. It controls your data connection depending on how you set it up. So either it enables a data connection or it shuts it off altogether. No throttling down to 2G.
*
So will this interfere with apps such as MSN Messenger which require constant minor synching in the background?

you mean 2G too slow to use MSN? i use 2G all the time, with Gtalk and msn, gmail, exchange, weather, facebook, engadget. No problem, it can support ;D
*
nono, i mean, i WANT to use 2G for MSN especially when the phone is idle, because 3G is draining too much battery with MSN in the background. That's why im asking if there's an app that a auto toggle 2G when the phone is in idle.

My previous post is regarding those APNDroid/Juicedefender program, because if they disable APN, then how can MSN work sad.gif

Erm I cant seem to get my phone to vibrate when theres an sms.

Any idea how to do this?

And also the notifcation does not dissapear unless u click on it and then click on the back button
*
Go to Messaging and bring up the Option within Messaging. You will see a seperate "Vibrate" option for incoming notification there. smile.gif
Yea, same for me too, only back button will mark the messages as "read". Kind of annoying.

Just a test/alpha firmware. Expect a lot of bug and don't think performance is that optimized yet. Still thinking whether or not to flash it lol!

Hi, I'm new Samsung Galaxy S owner, I would like to know is there a way to exclude some of the picture to show in gallery? Cuz all my games pictures are shown in there which is annoying..
*
there is, you have to put those pic file onto a specific folder to exclude it. i cant remember what is taht folder called but u have to create it yourself. it has been mentioned before around here, try to look around. cant remember where tongue.gif

edit : you have 2 ways i i think.
1. add a dot (.) in front of whatever folder you want to hide it from gallery. (i.e : \picture -> \.picture)

or if you do not wish to modify your folder name :

2. you have to create an empty file called ".nomedia" (yes with the dot in front of the word nomedia) and drop it into the whichever folder you want those photo hidden. (not sure if this work, coz i heard that it only work to hide music from the music player)

Personally, I'm not really very happy with my SGS batt consumption. My old BB Curve 8900 (non-3G) used to tahan more than 2 days, despite being constantly connected to the data network. The SGS is ok, browsing is very snappy with 3G/HSDPA but I'd prefer a phone that can take 1 full day of heavy usage without me fearing that the batt would die on me.

This is my first Android phone, though, so maybe it's just how the platform is.. biggrin.gif

I'm also on the lookout for a bigger capacity 3rd party batt for the SGS - something at least 1800mah without sacrificing the slimness of the phone.

It's quite easy to check. Once you've updated to the mimocan kernel, just do 1 of the 2 things below:

1. Open root terminal on your phone (I use ConnectBot). Type 'su' to go to root mode, then just type 'cd /disk'. If you can enter the folder, the ext3/ext4 partition has been recognized and mounted by the OS.

2. With USB debugging mode enabled on phone, connect to the phone using adb shell and type the same commands as in (1) above. Same result = success.

BTW, I don't think mimocan's lagfix will work on the Froyo firmwares.

P/S - I've jumped to the pre-rooted JP3 firmware too! Not too bad, am still playing around with the OS now.

You cannot compare BB O/S (does it deserved to be called an OS anyway?) to Android. Android does so much more thing. Also, my moderate usage my phone can normally last about 1.5 days. Super heavy, maybe 6-7 hours. Heck, even laptop also last about this long only tongue.gif Light, could be up to 2.5days. But coming from an Symbian OS on Nokia, i can say that it's perfectly normal and sometimes it's even better.

demn my batt cannot last a day.. with very minimal ussage. no heavy app. most of the time phone are in sleep . rarely making or receive call,  no wifi, rarely sms..
i still donno y
*
Now this is weird, if you have battery monitor that shows a scale from 1-100%. A sleeping phone only eat about 1%-2% battery per hour. 2% max although 1.5% is more of the average. Assuming worst case, it'll still take 50hours to completely drain everything. Listening to music will eat about 5%-7% per hour (thats still about 15-20hours of music listening) . Browsing net can varies between 10-20% per hour (average 15%).

Also as a note, my battery does drain A LOT faster on the first week after purchase which was also reported by a lot of other users. After the battery has been conditioned (going through several cycle of charging), i can see that the battery can gradually last longer and now, it can last about twice as long compared to the first day i bought it. Don't worry.

I like Android, even more than I like BB OS, but do share what you mean by Android being able to do more things? What things? smile.gif
*
Honestly, i dont use BB myself, only use it few times on my friend's phone. But to point out couple of it, would be the UI fluidity/animation and the widgets capability, ability to use livewallpaper if you want, and you have more apps on Android. To me, BB seems too...business oriented and very limited except for its king of email capabilty but it doesn't means that android fall short of it smile.gif. Personally, I also had a lot of trouble navigating the menu and especially messaging service (not user friendly). For instance, i don't even know where is my "Sent" SMS is kept.
