Dear all SGS,

I'm very new to android world (coming from WM6.5, HTC HD) and have learned a lot from this forum (treat V1 & V2). I would like thanks ppl like hihihehe, alfredtwl etc for providing so many info on SGS.

I plan to buy SGS this week and would like to ask few question;

1) When android 2.2 (Froyo) is out, if Samsung does not official upgrade SGS to android 2.2, can we just download and install Froyo ourself (maybe Touchwiz3.0 may be over written, correct me if I'm wrong)?

2) understand that before we can install custom ROM to android, we need to root the os, for Modoca R2, is it we no need to root the OS as the rooting is built into the custom ROM?

3) If i use ADB to root, I understand all the step except step 3 'Enter Code adb reboot recovery', where do I type in the 'adb reboot recovery'?

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,

Danny

Fancy widget is taken off market, because is copy right by HTC, if you want it, google it =D
If you want to use ADB, first you have to setup the environment, go download the SDK. then run window's CMD, type there.

Thanks buddy.

Danny, how long is your warrant period? 12 mths or 12 + 6 mths?
*
I also confuse, the promoter told me 18 months but when I asked again during the registration, the customer service said 12 months. rclxub.gif

Dear All,

I'm very new to Android and Samsung. Few question;

1) How do I exit the program, is it press Home key, the program will exit? And is it true if I press back key, the program still running back gorund?
2) How do I see a list of program running back ground?
3) How do I go to Android market? When click on the Market icon and it ask me "set up google account'. Is it I need to setup account before going to Android Market?
4) I down load Kies and it seems that I cannot connect to my Samsung, anything I need to do?

Sorry, maybe the above is noob question.

Cheers,

Danny

Hey, I'm also very new, just got my phone a few days ago. Will help you with what I know. smile.gif

1.yeah, the app will continue running so that if you access it later, it will start up quicker. I usually go to Settings-> Applications-> Running Services to manually close.

2. You can add the Running Services widget to your dock if you're using Launcher pro. Not sure about Touchwiz cos I've never used it from the start. tongue.gif I also installed Task Switcher app to see active apps and switch between them without going back to Home screen.

3. I set up using my gmail account then can access already. It's a one-off setup.

4. Kies can only detect your phone if it's using Touchwiz, so you'll have to switch back before connecting.

Hope it helps. smile.gif

- samsung kies = will charge ur phone
- mass storage = will no charge ur phone.

Thanks, now when I plug in the usb to PC, it will prompt out to ask for select.

When i choose mass storage, it will charge my phone and when I go to explorer, it show drive 'F' and 'G' but
when click on the 'F' or 'G' drive, message "Please insert Dirve into Drive F'.

When I choose samsung kies and run the Kies apps, it is not connected.
Why Andoid so difficult one, Window Mobile more easy le, hahahahaha

After selecting Mass Storage, you will need to "mount" from the "USB Connected" in the notification bar in order for your Windows to see the 2 drives.

Kies only detect if Samsung Kies is selected.

Also unmount first on the Android before ejecting from Windows.

Thank you blurjoey rclxms.gif

Now I can see the connect to the drive. So happy we have so many sifu here to help. Ok, once I'm expert in Android, will
pay back the community by answering new ppl like me, hahahahaha

One more thing, how do I disable the usb charging? Eventhough I choose mass storage, it still charge.

Cheers,

Danny

For SGS, use samsung Kies
*
Yeah, just found out that as of now, SGS only has Kies. For PC Studio or PC Suite, it is not compatible with SGS.
And even with Kies, we need to download the correct version for SGS.

BTW, what the different between Kies, PC Studio and PC Suite?

Dear All,

Today I managed to use Kies for the first time. So dissapointed with Kies, nothing much it can do and the only feature
that I like is, it can edit contact and save the contact to PC and download back to mobile.

I thought we can send sms via Kies ( from PC) but it only can view.

I like to send SMS via laptop. Anyone know any apps that can use to send SMS via PC (when we connect our SGS to PC)?

Cheers,

Danny

Hi jujx,

I downloaded and installed to SGS, how do I configure it to work using usb?

When I click on the Remote SMS, it show messsage as below

'USB connection (via adb) port:8080
See FAQ on our homepage for usage of adb"

I try to google for the user guide but not able to find it.

Can you kind enough to guide me?

Thanks in advance.

regards,

Danny

Google how to set up adb environment, you can download the sdk from google website
*
Thanks jujx, I found the FAQ and guess what, even thought I'm in IT, I found it very complicated to
use remoteSMS via USB, OMG, either I'm stupid or android is very tought to learn, hahahaha.

Even thought there is a step by step guide, I do not know how to install SDK, just imagine that, guess I'm
not goood enough in android.

I still prefer Window Mobile, easy to sync with PC, no problem copy file/song etc from PC to mobile and vice versa.

I give up, now trying google to look for other tools (ie. PC Suit, PC Studio etc....)

Android is not hard to learn, in fact it's actually very easy.
Maybe it just requires you to read clearly, double check everything before clicking.

And I have no problems copying files and whatsoever to PC. Just use kies, not difficult at all. You will need to use kies and install the phone drivers first, if you haven't done that yet.

Hi MYstombox,

I just installed kies today, i only know how to use the contact feature. Still do not know how to copy files from
PC to SGS.

Guess I'm a slow learner.
