Super Amoled -> SLCD not much of a drop smile.gif

Of course you'll loose the color vibrancy/contrast, but you gain in color accuracy
You'll loose in side angle view, but gain in vertical
And depends, if you watch movie alot you might loose in battery life, but if you surf sites alot, you'll gain battery life
Oh and you'll gain in sharpness, since the SLCD doesnt use the pentile matrix layout

edit: if its TFT, then that of course is a different story. so cross your fingers the DHD has SLCD!

not much of drop?not sure about u but its different case to me though wink.gif

even my friend who own HTC Desire with AMOLED can see the difference once he saw my phone..and from the review of SLCD vs AMOLED,i can see that AMOLED is better than that..well at least from my eyes...

Sorry i meant tor refer to the AMOLED vs SLCD case not SAMOLED tongue.gif.

Amoled vs SLCD has its own strength and weakness. While initially the AMOLED may look nice, in the long run the overblown contrast starts to make everything look too unnatural sad.gif. Very cartoonish. At least for me, i prefer to see a picture as close as its original color as can be. Moreoften when taking a picture, it'll look very vibrant in the AMOLED screen, but once transfered to a computer, it'll look more 'dull', where in actual fact, the 'dull' pic is more natural and closer to real life smile.gif.

Of course, amoled has its advantages. Watching movie or anything with lots of dark scenes, and usint dark themes on it, it'll have better battery life than SLCD. And of course, SCLD would fare much better in the sun than normal AMOLED. Not to mention SLCD is sharper than AMOLED. I'd take SLCD over AMOLED anytime.

But SAMOLED, that is a different thing altogether smile.gif. The Galaxy S is a spec powerhouse. Nothing is close to it at the moment. But their software isnt up to par sad.gif. But honestly the SGS and DHD should be on the same level, with just different pros and cons. More choice is always good tho =D.

im ok with both SLCD or AMOLED or SAMOLED; but not TFT
initially though DHD will be breakthrough product...
too sad to say that the latest product from HTC is still need to compete with product that launched few months ago.

Good news is you can have Live Wallpaper on and don't have to worry about the battery. My HD2 is on Desire HD rom now and the battery drain for Live Wallpaper while the phone on idle is either 60mA or 10mA. The Live Wallpaper can last a whole day with normal usage.

The DHD is the GSM version of the EVO4G with some minor enhancements =.= not a breakthrough product.

I feel the Desire Z is more breakthrough than the DHD. Currently its the top GSM keyboarder. Keyboard, SLCD, balance proc+gpu, new sense, 1.5GB ROM. Although once Milestone comes out it'll give HTC a run for its money.
And if Samsung decides to bring a GSM flavour of Epic4G, then spec wise it might take the crown.

But in all honesty, HTC product never tries to beat in all spec wise. They set themselves apart with their software and UI. When you say HTC, straight away you'll think of the Sense, the modding and hacking community, and its superb build quality. These 3 items are synonymous with HTC. Now with the latest Sense, you get more widgets, you get precached maps, and you get to use their Sense tracking service in case your phone got stolen. Tell me which company offers all of that? Service to track your handphone, or remote wipe your data, once it get stolen. All these softwares is what sets HTC apart, not ultra high specs. And sometimes, its these software improvements that makes your daily usage of it much more practical.

Of course if they were to put ultra high specs, they'll slaughther the competition, but at the same time, the price of product will skyrocket. You cant have super good software and super good hardware and not expect it to price close to a gajililon dollar tongue.gif

i agree with ur statement on HTC strengths.. but maybe here in Malaysia we can forget about pre-cached maps because we r not entitle to use google maps with navigation here .. am i right? so we have to use brut's google maps, and that one has come with pre-cached maps for long time d..

for me, HTC is always no 1 in terms of UI implementation (for me, HTC Sense is super awesome) and it's build quality..

Samsung phone always has the best spec among the devices, but it always has problem with it's software.. look at omnia, and now galaxy S.

if everyone can contributes and generate ideas to the developer, definitely the software can be updated and the issue can be fixed. but the problem is, many of the developers are pros to HTC. and in android case, Nexus One.

so for now, even with TFT Lcd, if DHD is available right now, while Samsung is still struggling with it's froyo update, I can say DHD is the device to buy. of coz, if budget is not a concern...

True mate, we share the same taste of coffee biggrin.gif

They offer more in terms of usability and user experience rather than software. Who hates htc sense could still go for other launchers, same as in other phones running other custom UI could also use other cool launchers like ADW and launcherpro. HTC uses their Sense UI to improve what is already good in android. In my honest opinion, HTC Sense does not destroy the beauty of android but it enhances the experience. HTC Sense phone still most of the stock widgets and if its not included, the development team will port it

Hopefully this phone will have a good modder and developer support. Im very happy to use HTC Desire previously that have a quite number of active devs that develops stable HTC Sense based and stock android based custom ROMs. Not forgetting cyanogenmod too.

Those which prefers high end spec should wait for the next samsung phone or just grab the Galaxy S. They seem to focus more on hardware and hopefully they will work out on a good stable UI too which brings a good user experience. Not saying that the TouchWiz is not good but they could improve it more indeed. Every people has their own taste, it differs and this is what phone manufacturers see. They want to differ their product from the others. This is the difference between iOS and Android OS. We are able to choose specs and UIs since phones are manufactured by various companies which they have their own strategy.

Well put =D. In the end, both phones are good in their own ways. A more well rounded phone with good UI, compared to a hardware beast, with slighly lesser UI (altho, with time, the mod community will surely improve on it, for example the lagfix). Whatever it is, i am glad that more and more Android choices are coming out. A phone that can be the best of both world (power users, and the casual users), and giving the iphone a run for its money.

With time, as the Android OS gets more polished, i feel that it'll beat iOS. The current pro's of the iOS is just its fluidity, and large app base. Both which Android is getting closer to match. Speed is getting better, apps count are getting larger (cause more devs are realising the growth potential of Android and trying to milk its user base tongue.gif) , and on top all of that, have so much flexibility.

All this bodes not well for iOS, unless of course, Apple realises their drawbacks and starts to open up iOS.

I have emailed HTC about the LCD.

This is the reply I get. Not a very good news I believe.

Dear Ernest Yong,

Thank you for contacting HTC. With reference to your query, we regret to inform you that so far we haven't been informed which kind of LCD will be used on Desire HD. We would suggest that you may check our official website from time to time for any possible update to this model.

"I don't know/I don't care" is their standard lazy reply. I been getting that BS a few times, and I already bought the product. Piss poor service. If I want answers, I call straight to HTC HQ nowdays.

Maybe there is something really wrong with the HD. Anyway, my mind set straight already, TFT or not, I will still get it. Since my N97 is a TFT too, I do not have complain over the screen quality. Obviously, I did compared with SGS before, it's nice too, but I am satisfied with this xD!

Now I am a HTC fag!
