QUOTE(Duke Red @ Aug 4 2010, 10:42 AM) Mate, trust me when I saw you aren't the only one. In the time that I've been a football fan, I've noticed that winning trophies matters more to Liverpool fans than any other, probably because we aren't accustomed to winning, well not as much as the mancs or Chelsea anyway. Many of their fans grew up in a winning environment, so much so that 2 seasons without a trophy turns out to be a mild form of tragedy. It's simple really. When you have things come your way ever so often, you begin to take things for granted. Personally, such moments of glory will stick in my head forever. Memories of the game are so vivid, it was as though it was played yesterday. When I first started supporting Liverpool, we had just won our last league title and in the years that followed after, we had only won 3 cups including a League Cup and the Charity Shield, neither of which are worth a shout. Needless to say, when we won in Istanbul, years of pent up emotion burst out. It was the same for the 3000 odd Liverpool fans I was with in Hartamas until 6 am in the morning. Some of us stayed on and partied till 7am when daylight finally made us realise that we had to go home, shower and go to work! I've never seen such a celebration in my life. People were on the streets as cars stopped by where we were, with their drivers and passengers getting out to dance in the streets with us. Every other car that passed by honked in support. I saw what it meant to us and the sight of thousands of strangers coming together as one further cemented my belief on what it means to be part of Liverpool Football Club. It says a lot that we still speak about that night in May like it was yesterday. I sometimes get accused of living in the past but on the contrary, I just cherish it is all. I was at Hartamas that nite,,mate,,Back to the "One Night in May" video. 2 years after Istanbul, I made my maiden trip to Anfield with a friend. We watched the game against Arsenal in which we won 4-1. Prior to that, I visited the Liverpool FC museum and noticed a room dedicated to our triumph in Istanbul. I walked in and they were playing the "One Night in May" DVD. In the room was about 50 other fans who were sat in front of the screen. I joined them for a good 30 mins and by the end of it, I could see people brushing their eyes. I realised then that I wasn't overly sentimental and I no longer felt like a soppy little girl. Grown adults from other parts of the world wept as I did when I first watched the video! hahaha,, that nite was awesome,,,after the game, i went back to Shah Alam, & the roads from Hartamas to Shah Alam,, were filled with cars with LFC scarf flying high,,, I still remember, i think prior to the kick off, the organiser ask some fans to sing YNWA , sadly a few so called 'Liverpool fans' do not the lyrics... i hope they do by now |
