QUOTE(Leo the Lion @ Aug 6 2010, 04:44 PM)
Actually, you're the one that's funny

1. From every nokia phone I've been used, Nokia N97 the most sucks of them all. Bought RM2240 that time, and I regret buying it. Keep getting lack of memory. From both android phone I have been used (Milestone and SGS), both have memory RAM problem. And I can tell, android is bad in utilizing the hardware. Great hardware, but OS sucks utilizing it. Care to debate on this?

2. Brut Map is not android map, dude. Google Map is Android Map. Google have Google Map, but it's sucks. You need to be Online and have GPS function ON and there is no navigation features. And Papago, you need to buy it cost around RM140 while Ovi Maps is free for most of the phone. Now Papago doesn't support froyo. And I heard MFM won't update Papago map. Sucks alot.

3. I can live without the camera flash, but come on, browsing without full flash player support? Means I can't farmville on my phone but my previous Nokia N900 could. Have to wait another months for froyo to arrived. Btw, didn't u ask me what android is lacking? And this is one of it.

4. The things about pirated application, that it's dangerous. Google will be my friend if they let our regions have paid application.

And one more thing, if you wanna take a screenshot of your phone, you need to root first and install the 3rd application. Why such hassle? Root here, root there, to get Super Administrator access. To change the theme, you need to root also. Symbian and Maemo doesn't need all of these whistling.gif

Yeah dude, android doesn't have this features. Pretty sucks laugh.gif

I dont want to argue with you la... just one last reply to this as this is afterall N8 and not Android thread.

1. I cant really comment on this. It would not do any favor as most Android have 600MHz CPU or faster. It felt zippy and agile. Yours isnt? I heard that SGS is a bit sluggish but better on gaming. Havent tried one... Im using HTC Legend nia and already feel its enough.

2. Brut map is a modification of the original map. What it does is basically hack-enable navigation that were otherwise locked/restricted to the US/Europe. If you ask me, I would rate Ovi Map last. Google/brut map second and Garmin 1st. Dont mistaken me, navigation wise, Google still sucks somewhat compared to Garmin and Ovi, but the details of the map is better than Ovi. Its just a preference, my own one.

3. Full Flash support is coming liao. Dont tell me you dont know that? Its because these 3rd party UI which is affecting the progress. N1 already is running Flash 10.1 so all you can do is curse Samsung and not blame Google. Honestly, are we on Symbian vs Android or Maemo vs Android here? Just be patient la.. Full Flash on Android is going to be very satisfying, just like on Maemo. Take a look at my HTC Legend. Still on 2.1 and not Froyo yet.

4. Dangerous? Please... you dont even dare to list the app you ever bought which I take as none. Then all those app are crack version too. Just because you need to sign it become non dangerous? LOL...

Hey,

Nice video. Anymore on video on 720P RMVB/DIVX? Especially one with HDMI output to LCD TV?

Im going to try play some 720P DIVX and RMVB on my Legend and see can play or not. Should be slower than N8 cos ARMv6 vs ARMv7.

BTW, its a nice move from Nokia enabling to detect and access pendrive. Should be interesting. I wouldnt want to be waiting for my phone to transfer a say 8gb of movies. Just transfer it to a pendrive. Also easy to transfer data to another similar device.

Leo the Lion has actually made many good points against Android. Let me share a few of my own.

Firstly, I own an Android phone - HTC Hero. I've also had the pleasure to play with the Desire. I've written a few Android applications on my own. Here's what I feel are Android's disadvantages in the market today.

1) Android has a lot of connectivity issues, especially with WiFi. Just search for "Android WiFi Problem" or "Android Mobile Network problem" on Google. My own personal experience hasn't been great. My Hero does not work properly with my WAG54G2 router, although all my other phones do.

2) Android phones today suck at multimedia hardware, especially cameras. Flame Apple all you want, but an iPhone 3GS with 3.2MP takes better shots than my Hero with 5MP. Based on the picture samples I've seen from the new iPhone 4, it's 5MP camera takes way better shots than the 8MP Android phones. Finally, my 5MP Nokia N82 takes better shots than probably all the Android sets that exist today.

3) Lack of free navigation software. One of the nicest things about Nokia is that their Ovi Maps is really good, about 80% on the level of Garmin and Papago. Google Maps is not bad, but you often need to download map images on the fly because not everything comes pre-installed.

All these reasons is why I still keep and use my Nokia N86, even though it has a lousy ugly GUI compared to Hero. It's not pretty but 99% of what I need is there.

The best thing I like about Android/Hero is the browser. Seriously no Nokia phone today lets me surf as happily as my Hero. Which is why I'm looking forward eagerly to the N8, because the big multitouch capacitive screen will finally let me surf happily where older Nokia resistive screens like the one on the N900 don't feel as smooth as my Hero.

No need be so kiasu...
No criticism where got improvement.

My expectation is quite high one. When say can, then I wan all also can. If good, I say good. If bad, I say bad. Simple.
I just tried 720P RMVB on my HTC Legend. Totally rubbish. Im very frank one.. I dont really root for anything nowadays.

Out of box, the legend will feel snappier than desire if same os. Main reason, legend resolution much much lower.

But if you look at the browser video, it still does not resize to fit. I really dont understand why Nokia find it so hard to code their browser this way. Scroll left and right when you pinch and zoom. Grrrr.... wake up Nokia...

Camera wise, that one really depend on the hardware. Higher MP does not really translate into better picture. Its the SENSOR which is why N8 is good at it.

No wor... I find Desire is better wor. Gaming might be different cos of resolution but on normal use, I feel Desire is totally lagless unlike Legend where it still lag a little bit at certain place. Which is why Im also interested in how N8 perform here. S60v5 is totally outperformed by the rivals, so I want to see if Nokia really pack some punch back.

1. When I used Motorola Milestone, it doesn't feel zippy/faster. SGS is FAST, but hardware utilization isn't near Nokia yet.

2. I would rate Garmin 1st, Ovi Map 2nd and Google Map 3rd. So here is only personal opinion? Fine with me

3. Than, you have to wait October till your Legend gets Froyo whistling.gif

4. Nonono, the thing I don't like pirate application, that there is a risk. The pirated application may lead to hacking and your personal data may be stolen without your knowledge.

Lets see about September. HTC mentioned Q3, so hopefully they can deliver. Desire is much simpler since they shared the same hardware as N1. All HTC needed to do is port their app to work. Its much more work on Legend, different hardware etc.

There is one thing that I really hate about Nokia is that they tend to kill platform. 7710 and now N900 suffers the same fate. Cant they just release a new version like Android or Iphone OS? Its really not much different and maybe just cripple some of the features. Too much to ask for?

I am very ok with Criticism.. I see my self one of the most nuetral person here.. I critic N8 too..

But I am not ok with ppl simply bash do not base on fact...

along last 2 years.. Nokia never learn n make the same mistake again n again... 1.. never really increase the RAM.. the RAM issue been there for sooo long... 2nd. choosing a slightly higher resolution(compare to Ipon n most Android in market before this mostly HVGA) screen but run on a very weak processor....

about the flash part.. I was playing FB game on my N97 before the fb force user to mobile version while u use a phone to serf the webpage.. playing Realm of Empire there for some time.. but I think that is not a full flash game..

Cut the crap that Nokia should release android or another version of IOS phone doh.gif I really hate people mentioned this all the time while surfing the internet sweat.gif To me, Symbian has all the features I need, what's lacking is just eye-candy UI and enhanced/better browsing experience. That's all.

Rephrase...

I said, Nokia should just release a new version of Symbian like what Android and Iphone OS is doing instead of killing the platform. Why they wanna release a new platform and then kill it? Cant they just decide move on or stay with the current one with additional stuffs? They release something interesting and then just kill it like that. I dont get it.

Dude , i think what he mean't was n900 is the one and only product that is using Maemo 5 which on the other hand , no other phones use it.
Furthermore , Moblin and Maemo merge together and became Meego . And somehow we felt Nokia ditch Maemo 5 by just releasing it on one phone , somemore cannot upgrade to new version OS. For example Android and its 2.1 and 2.2 .

Same like Nokia with Symbian^3 , rushed to release it this year and then stated to release Symbian^4 next year. We feel ditched and .... Don't know how to say. sweat.gif

Bu Fung,

Well, the reason I said so, is because the response from most forum regarding n900 is that Nokia is somewhat lackluster. Many are feeling Nokia already leave them for good.

Hero did get Ecclair recently. I don't think it will get Froyo.

I kind of agree nokia lost focus now. But saying it death r a bit unfair. At the end of the day, u r buying a phone not entire platform. Legend should be stop @ froyo also. Gingerbread is a monster.
