bought an Atman canister filter at an offer price costing just rm80.. to my surprised the hoses look identical to eheim and it even came with a plastic lily pipe

a very satisfied purchase, now my tank looks like it has eheim filter heheh

If you do intend to get a nice fish tank and to continue in the hobby, you will definitely need a canister filter. try to get a small eheim 2213 now. It's only rm199 (cause its eheim promotion in all major stores). it's useful because:
1. its easier to get cleaner water (nicer tank) as the flowrate is higher
2. next time if u ever get a bigger tank, the canister filter can be used as well (cost saving in the long run).

i started this hobby about 2 months ago, and i now have a few HOB filter lying around doing nothing because it's not really effective and these relic from my initial investment into hobby turn out to be rather useless. just my 2 cents.

btw, i got myself a 2215 and 2217 from the promotion.. wheee!

My tank is only 1.5ft and about 10 gallons of water. Is that suitable to use Eheim2213? Will the water flowing rate too strong for my tank and cause my fish every minute in the disco mood?

Thanks

@imr4n , agreed with the comment that , No c02 tank , eheim filter also useless..

I myself personally use a lot of eheim filters. And I must say the quality is superb. less problematic than the dolphins i used before. Not to say I am a huge fanboy but the quite accurate rated flowrate does help at times..(especially in hi light hi maintenance tanks)

And the service is good. There was once my one of my eheim failed to prime itself due to power outage and I was overseas. the whole impeller shaft melted due to 2 days worth of churning air and heat. Eheim replaced the entire head for me in a matter of days...

Only spend in it if you can. Not a necessity. Get Necessities first, then upgrades come later..

-more info= Eheim promo price is
2213-rm199
2215-rm299
2217-rm399
I am no way working with eheim or Qian Hu so don't fire me LOL

Dear Drew/@Imr4n,

Thanks for your input. Appreciate that.

I am planning to get CO2 tank + solenoid soon.

Currently i am using HOB filter for my 1.5ft tank.
I was thinking to change my filter to Eheim 2213 but some of the LFS owner saying that 2213 is not suitable for my small tank. The water flow rate is too strong. Any opinion on this?

Many thanks

i think for a 1.5 ft tank, 2213 is okay.. but since ur spending 200 bucks for a filter.. might as well go straight for 2215 so u can still use it if u upgrade ur tank
CO2 tank is a necessity.. solenoid is not smile.gif use the money u gonna spend for solenoid on the filter instead
unless ur a super busy person, manual regulator is adequate just that u have to adjust the bubbles more regularly

Dear Imr4n,

Thanks for your input. Appreciate that.
Will consider your advise.

Just got my new CO2 tank. Currently set to 1 bubble/6 seconds for my 1.5ft tank. I am planting Glosso, riccia, and 2 other unknown plants.

1. May I know is the CO2 enough for my plant?
2. Notice my pH is between 5-6. Is that OK?

Many thanks.

Michanz,
1.5ft tank with 36W PL light. Not sure enough or not. Light on for 8 hours and CO2 on for 7 hours. Using HOB filter and found out my plants was attack by black/brownish coating. Think is algae....Maybe filter system is not strong enough or CO2 is not enough....

Hi,

This is my tank just setup for almost 4 months ago. I have noticed my glosso have some brownish coating. I think is algae. Due to poor water circulation or not enough CO2? Need sifu's advice. Also found my Riccia has long narrow leave comes out. Don't know what is that. Any sifu can advice? Many thanks.

Michanz,

Why my water surface looks oily? Like a layer of oil. I have done the WC but after few hours it will appear again. Is it due to my recently added Rotala? Happen since yesterday. How to solve leh?

Bought one bottle of vitamin(the seller said so) instead of fertilizer from World Aquatic during the aquafair. Cost RM 20/bottle. They claimed this product will cost more than RM 40/bottle when they launch soon. Will wait and see the result.
By the way, why my tank water does not looks clear like what i setup 4 months ago? Only clear for 1 day after WC. Have weekly WC.

Radver,
My tank almost has same condition with your previous tank. Algae and stunted growth. May I know how you handle this?
Plant gone yellowish instead of greenish.

Many thanks

Well... First, I found out that my plants were having stunted growth and turning yellowish was because I stopped dosing fertilizer since the algae attack occured. So I restarted my dosing regime...

Second, for the algae problem, I used to have ottos cleaning it up for me but they died and living in Kuala Terengganu I could only get them when I go back to KL. So instead, I bought RCS and had them posted to my place as my new algae cleaning crew. Cause for whatever reason, the ottos will die every 4 - 5 months, I don't know why.

Third, I restarted injecting Co2 by using DIY yeast method and it helped a lot also to control the algae and help the plant growth.

Fourth, I also decreased my lighting period from 13 hours a day to 11 hours a day and put the timer according to the sun. Cause I used to have the light on at 10 am and off at 11 pm. So then it was 9 am to 8 pm.

This is what I did to recover, it'll be different on different tanks. So you can modify it according to your tank...

Hope it helps...  smile.gif

Thanks for your sharing, Radver.
I have 3 otto and 2 flying fox and 3 Yamato in my 1.5ft tank now.
Light is 8 hours per day, PL36W. CO2 is 1bps on for 7.3 hours.
Started using fertilizer since last 3 weeks in order to have my plant growth faster. Maybe this can reduce my algae problem with healthy growth of my plants.
Think i shall follow you to put more shrimp.

Thank you very much.
