Especially when there are adequate lighting in the aquarium, they will change the pigment in the newer leaves to absorb different light spectrum. 

And only some species will turn red, not all. If want to stop the red from coming, you can always decrease your lighting...

Added on August 28, 2010, 10:42 pmIMO, if you use HOB, you need to constantly top up water to maintain it at high enough levels so there would not be too much splashing at the outlet of the HOB causing you to loss all the precious CO2 your plants need.

So, IMO, if your planning to stick to a 1 footer and not expand into a 2 or 3 ft tank anytime soon. Its best you get a canister.

hey guys,

i just purchase a bag a ADA Amazonia II Regular and done some jar test with it. the water color change to milky brown straight after i put in. it is normal?

the knob on the tank is to let the co2 out of the tank, keep that turned on, and regulate the co2 using the regulator knob (duh! i feel like smacking myself)

uh, how high is considered high ph and can be returned?

and also, how long to wait before the ph will normalize? the lfs guy told me need to wait about a month before the ph will go down then i can start putting shrimps in. its about a month and the ph is still 7.0. still cant put shrimps

tragedy happened in my tank. left for a short break, came back 3 days later and found new members. my housemate thought my tank looked boring with shrimps and just 2otos and added tetras,danios and 2cory catfish.

and guess what i found on the tank bottom. heads and bodies of my cherry shrimps...3 of them.. and so far no more sightings of the babies..sigh.

have a few more shrimps in there. but i dun have an extra tank to separate them. but i guess there are still hiding spots for them. hopefully.

@booby, i feed my otos algae wafers say 2-3x a week.
