rachu7 might share more details of ur tank ? like how many liter of water, using wat filter? lighting set how much of watt, 2bps ?

Hi bro.

Sure can shere...no prob. ok, my tank is about 55 liter, using Eiheim 2211 filter, my lighting is aquazonic 24w x 4 and yup my co2 is 2bps smile.gif . Also i do 30% wc 2x a week, wed and sat.

yeah im interested in that =D
ok say i want to diy i have to find T8's right?
around say 2feet in length so they can fit in my hood
but all i see in hardware shop all very low wattage la
what are you running?
*
I'm running 2 unit of T8, each 18watts over my 25 gallon 2 feet tank. Currently thinking of adding another one... tongue.gif

I don't have a hood, don't want one, don't need one. blush.gif Cause I'm using DIY fans to lower my tank temperature for my RCS. And also because I'm using normal T8 lightings with the frame one, so its actually a bit more longer then my tank, if got hood need to modify my lightings tongue.gif . blush.gif I attached a picture... tongue.gif

high recommended you to DIY lighting set with T5 tubings. smaller in size and release lesser heat compare with T8.

should i stick to T8 and go for two?
or should i try other etc T5 or pl lighting?

But T5 tubes are much more expensive as compared with T8 lightings, T8 18 watts is RM7.90 but for T5 its about RM20 for 20watts, last time I compared la... Now I not so sure, anyone got updated price??? icon_question.gif

Hi,
I got 2 unit of 10w LED. I also got one old computer PSU which generate 12v of current. I planing to setup DIY lighting for my nano tank.

Any suggestion or schematic diagram for me ?

but the heat release by T8 is much higher than T5.

whats the spectrum of that LED ? i think the normal cheap cheap for pc modding 1 not strong enough for aquarium tank right ?
correct me if im wrong.

Online. The problem now is one of the LED is not switch on 100% when i put it in parallel circuit. rclxub.gif
I think my old computer PSU not enough power.

In parallel it becomes a current divider, in series it's a voltage divider.

make sure the PSU has enought current output to drive the LED in parallel.

to calculate current output, P=VI. Power in watt, V in voltage and I in amps. so, I=P/V

Eg, I=400/12 =33.33 Amps..

U might wanna be careful with the circuitry. A 3 watt led has a driving current of 700mA= 0.7 amps. ur PSU has way more power to run leds make sure u have properly designed the circuit with adequate resistors to limit the current and voltage to avoid frying the LED.

33amps ! shocking.gif , how could I draw that current?
My PSU is 12v but I don't know how much is the current as I don't have any tool to measure it. sweat.gif

This is my circuit design.

How could I limit the current with resistors? I have 1.5 ohn and 5.2 ohn spare resistors. Can I use it ?

Nice, since u have a circuit up, it'll be easier to troubleshoot.. what's the power rating on ur PSU? how many watt? from that power u can find the current output..

also, if it's possible. state the LED, driving curent and forward voltage.. if u get it from ebay, check the isting. it muct be stated there...

My PSU Spec, I am using the +12v cable. it is 18 amps.

what should I design the circuit base on this spec?

specs for ur LED:

Power: 10W
Voltage: 10V
Current, I= P/V = 1 Amp

If u have connected the two leds and the PSU parallel to each other, the voltage drop across all component will be 12V. that's bad. prolonged operation in that voltage may compromise ur leds life span. or might just fry it even sooner. so, we need to calculate a equivalent resistor to limit the voltage to 10V max across each led.

For the PSU, if u're using the 12 volt cable only. with the 18A current, u can drive any component up to (P=VxI) (12x18), 216 W max. but u're only gonna drive 2 10W led. that's only 20W. so, again we must limit the current too. from ur led spec the current goin thru each LED must not be more than 1 Amp as opposed 18 Amps..

let me calculate and put up a new circuit for u. so u can drive ur leds safely.. but i'm not sure how damage u have done to ur leds already.. blush.gif
