Well, I beg to differ. If you could increase the ISO a little more, increase the aperture a little more, increase the shutter speed a little more, you'll most probably manage to avoid the blurry shots and capture the ambient lighting instead of getting a shot with blurry subject with dark background. Firing the flash harder will only make your picture go worse with subject brightly lit and a dull dark background.
