mastering89: Eh, why not find the proper step up ring for this?

ianho: Wah, so you can have one 16mm with the fisheye adapter hooked on, all the time!

d4rkholeang3l: Wow light painting with glass is awesome!

signither: Previously with the A900;

Daytime Set
Sony A900
Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4.0
Minolta 70-210mm F4.0 beercan

Nighttime Set
Sony A900
Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4.0
Minolta 50mm F1.4
Sony HVL-F20AM

Clubbing Set
Sony Cybershot WX-1

I don't actually travel much - mostly company trips where the clubbing happens within the hotel premises so I can bring just the nighttime set.

Also, for real travel I end up not using the flash at all.

So yeah... I forsee this being my setup:

Daytime Set
Sony NEX-5
Sony HVL-F7S
Sony E 16mm F2.8
Sony LA-EA1 lens adapter
Minolta 24-105mm F3.5-4.5(D)

Nighttime Set
Sony NEX-5
Sony HVL-F7S
Sony E 16mm F2.8
Sony LA-EA1 lens adapter
Minolta 50mm F1.4

Clubbing Set
Sony NEX-5
Sony HVL-F7S
Sony E 16mm F2.8

The Sony LA-EA1 and 24-105mm is very pocketable.

Still, 24 megapixels is 24 megapixels... and I haven't managed to open the NEX-5 RAWs yet so I can't tell if they're solid enough and as pullable as the A900 RAWs are. Though, in your case, since you don't have an A850 anymore, the only reason to carry an A700 around is if you want to do birding.

fruitie: To be honest - I'd rate the A550, 550D and NEX-5 to all have the same ISO performance. DxOMark proves this also, although the Canon is more colorblind in the red channel.

Having looked at the 1D MkIII colors versus the D300 and A900 on a X-Rite Color Checker Passport - Canon colors are generally muted and less vibrant. The Adobe Standard profiles for each camera show the Nikon and Sony to have more flourescent, vibrant yellows - but this is actually overdone, when we loaded the X-Rite-generated profiles.

If you want to pick between A550 and 550D here's some comparison :

On Alpha A550

-Street price now is cheaper than the EOS 550D but closer price range than the EOS500D
-It have 5 FPS ability (550D only 3.7FPS) and 7 FPS (non-AF tracking, locked focus and exposure on first shot)
-It have better color dynamic range / color separation compare to 550D together with high dynamic range (HDR) features
-Built-in IS which works on any lens you attach
-Dual Live View mode: Quick 4FPS Live View togethe with x11 magnify MF Live View as all the other traditional DSLR does

On EOS 550D

-Movie Mode on full hd
-Better IS performance on the kit lens (Viewfinder will get the stabilizing effect when you zoom on long focal range)
-Has bundle PC-Software for PC Remote control
-Smaller size compare to A550
-Sharper edge or image (compare to Sony 1855SAM) on the kit lens
-Slightly larger viewfinder

So if you're in sports or action photography or prefer using some cheaper price good quality lens which doesn't IS but you want the IS experince, I say A550 maybe your consideration

If you're not hype on action shooting, like the IS-Lens system which benefits you to get stabilize effect on both viewfinder and the image, prefer movie in the package, 550D maybe your consideration
so your rationale i find rather strange.

sports shooting - 5fps vs 3.7 fps? they make little difference.

the on-lens IS (viewable on viewfinder) is a lot more helpful when it comes to shooting sports activity / moving subject.

i think you also missed out A550 can wireless trigger flash, 550D cannot.

in the end both have their users, both are good camera. smile.gif choice is up to the person.

if you're looking at Sony camp, A550 is good. A230 / A330 / A380 on the other hand, bleh, hated it. ergonomically speaking very lousy, which unlike the A200 / A300 / A350. biggrin.gif in fact can get used A200 / A300 at very cheap price nowadays, with warranty some more.

Just wanna share with you guys Nex's Hand-held Twillight mode. I was with my friend doing night shooting. The place where he stand was too dark, and i am thinking of using this mode to test it. So, here it is:

user posted image

The ISO being cranked up to ISO6400, and once you push the shutter button, it will simultaneously took 6 shots straight in a row. Yes, it is noisy. But for me, it is usable. At least I know what my friend was trying to do. During the shot, I hardly see him, except for the white shirt. After the shot, the camera, the tripod are now visible.

How to shoot this kind of image, can teach me?
*
hmm, first , u need to get a black cardboard for the backdrop...

normally, i shoot this type of shot in dark room..

(room lights on)
1. Set up all your stuff.
2. Auto focus at your subject
3. After you get focus already, switch the lens to manual focus.

Turn off the lights.

4. Press the shutter ( Shutter priority mode @ 30 seconds )
5. Swing your LED torch.
6. Wait for picture to load smile.gif

the idea is to have LONG EXPOSURE so as you move, the sensor captures the lights as you move it around.

using FLASH would defeat the purpose as the flash to light up the scene and your shutter will be fast. even if it's slow shutter, flash would spoil the capture.

ianho: u really in love with NEX ya. maybe i should try on my own first la. few mins during TT doesn't really show me the the true capability of NEX. tak puas, many waiting for their turn to molest it. lol.

lwliam: nothing much. except that uncle ian bought another NEX today. lol.

albnok: birding? lol. but i'm kinda leaning to something like that now, taking out my DSLR for certain purpose. coz i only shoot landscape and football most of the time. so now a700 and 70200G would be my weapon of choice for football. for landscape, kinda lost the wideness for 17-35mm when i downgrade from a850 to a700 (but totally awesome for football). 17mm kinda ok for me, but don't really like the distortion on 17mm, so thinking maybe i wanna get 16mm prime on NEX to tackle the issue. but first i need to make sure that NEX + 16mm would be able to cater my needs for landscape photography and maybe my daily camera. then if i bring them both, i'll be like:

Primary weapon: a700 + 70200G
Side arm: NEX (3 or 5) + 16mm

brows.gif

p/s: 3 or 5?
