Hi all,

I m a motorola droid user. It is an android based phone, like apple iphone.

As i m using Hotlink prepaid. everytime i reload my credit it they will dissapear within next few days.

To my understanding is that, because droid is a smart phone, and is internet capable, it tends to connect to 3G network to update and sync user data.
I have tried my best to

#disable all applications that requires netowrk connection
#remove unnessacary applications that i suspect will automatically connect to network
#set my phone to 'use 2g network only' mode
#turn off those auto sync features, and data background

But all of these never help, the $ is still draining so fast, that on the 1st time dial 122 to check credit, it is rm30. Dial 122 again 5 mins later, the balance is only rm25. How? Help? what should i do?

But I don't get it though, having no data connection for your smartphone... is like gimping your phone's functionality already.

That is how the phone designed to work. But not with HOTLINK.

Even i have no intention of going online/facebook or whatever and just leave my phone there, my RM30 will become RM3 in 3 days time. I suspect this is because alot of data and background connection going on.

And if i dont stop the way maxis is charging me now, by sacrifising the internet connection, the next thing i lose will be the phone itself.

I have tried Maxis center, all they know is 'internet data charge'. As simple as that but cost me a bomb. There is no breakdown for prepaid user, even i requested them to verify this usage, they say if it is there, then it is there.

Maybe ask Maxis to show you the URLs which your phone is downloading from?

no chance, they alreadi make it very clear that they do not keep prepaid customer data connection information, no logs or anything to trace back. at least this is what i heard from their CSR.

Gotta give TS a break. Apparently, he bought the phone not for its superior network ability. Another method you can try is to manually adjust the setting for your data network. Say for example APN name for maxis is maxis3g, so change it to something else so that the phone can't access the network properly.

Had the same issue with my iPhone draining off my Hotlink credits even after switched off all data activities.
Last resort was to call CS to disabled the GPRS/3G data service. Case closed.

Just turn off Mobile network if you're not going to connect to the internet. I use Hotlink with HTC Hero and it won't cost extra if mobile connection is off. I only enable Mobile network when I actually want to surf. Other times I just use WiFi.

Its all about the users. Maxis dont design the phone so u cant blame the provider but the creator or the user. Maxis didnt S**K your money but your phone did because either as default or u accidentally enable the option.

I use nokia n900 i never had such issue. Now all telco provide data plan for phone pay for it and u can stay online. I am using hotlink data plan 500MB.
Even ppl on iphone have such issue u just need to learn how to disable it.

Maxis do really has hidden charges.

Back then when I was just making normal calls, I used Digi for half a year. And each mth was only RM30! After I switch to Maxis, it was RM80++ each mth. Had it for a year.

Since you're using a smartphone, advisable to get a data plan rather than using prepaid. If you're on a budget, get Digi.

this doesn't cause by hidden charges... it is android issue and i guess all android version designed to be like that.. the network connection will connect automatically even though u didn't connect any web or sync data or FB.. well, android based mobile considered as smartphone, so in order to full use the features, data line is recommended.. else, the 1st way is not using smartphone.. the other way avoid charges is disable wap or change the IP setting..
