If bedrooms. Consider low Kelvin rating. Higher ones are harsh. Especially at night.

I use 4 x 3000K 6" Philips Meson square downlight for my bedroom. 1 switch controls a pair. I normally just turn on a pair and seldom use both pairs

However, I turned them off completely post 9pm and use auxiliary Ikea Tagarp placed next to my bed. 2 sets of bulb give me selection flexibility for low lumens bulb.

This setup suits my usage pattern and kinda works for me. It may not suits you but I'm just sharing. biggrin.gif

I realize the downlight can't do much so I need some auxiliary lighting.

Downlight with adjustable brightness could work for you though.
