Anyone bought lights from overseas? How much is the import duty for lights?
I checked for LED bulbs, the tax is 20% plus 6% GST
HS code is 9405.40

Malaysian gov wants to discourage use of led bulbs is it?

hi guys
i have a track light installed on my ceiling
and now i have bought pendant lights that will attach to the existing track using the track holder
my question is, can i add an 'in line cord switch' for that pendant?

thx
*
can but your track lights must be on before your pendant can turn on

Thx for the info
ytd I went to houses of lighting and they said cannot
*
maybe I misunderstood you. the switch must already be buildin to your pendant light then it can work
unless you want to splice in your own inline cord switch

maybe post some pictures for further info

Just normal triangle cone pendant in black color
Currently its at eye level
I put 2 beside the tv left n right
Planned to put the switch 1 inch above the pendant
*
you can do it but the problem is the height, you may not be able to reach the switch
and also it wont look nice to splice like that. you also need to find a black cord with inline switch

buy wifi bulb more interesting - http://www.lazada.com.my/catalog/?q=xiaomi+wifi+bulb
can control the colors, can set timer, can on/off all using your smartphone

Hi can I know how much is it for the track light?
What's the usual price for it. I'm looking into it cos I might not want to do plaster ceiling.
*
I bought the light fixture at Rm100 each and Philips MR16 LED bulbs for around Rm70 or Rm80 each
so it's about Rm200 for each track light fixture

But it's very good type, heavy and solid. Made in Taiwan I think

Ic . Correct me if I'm wrong, is the light will make the place hot? Cos it is a kind of spotlight though it's  LED
*
Depends on the height of your lights. I got some that are about 8 feet, I can feel some heat but not as bad as halogen.
You only feel the heat if its aim directly at where you are at. Normally track lights are placed near walls and shooting at the walls, you won't get the heat.

I am planning to install track lights in the living room and bedroom but I am slightly concern with the lifespan of it compare to the normal E27 downlights.

Any feedback on this?
*
lifespan depends on the bulb that you buy
some track lights, the fixture and the bulb is fixed much like downlights (meaning LED bulb, transformer, etc all in one unit). some you can choose and buy your own LED bulbs
I chose the latter and I bought Philips MR16 LED - so far 1.5 years no issues. if you get better quality track light fixtures, the build in transformer is also better
transformer = drivers

Get the wan without transformer and the bulb recommend by idoblu.

Without transformer for easy replacement with wider choice. Since it run on 240v.

If that transformer is to convert AC to DC, might be spoil in future. Probably have hard time to find.

With the direct bulb, replacement is much more easy.
*
my one is MR16 that uses 12V - it needs a driver. I think separate driver and bulb is better. if driver spoiled, just change driver. if bulb spoil, change bulb.
if you buy GU10 it uses 240V no need driver

Is this the type you meant whereby the fixture and the LED bulb can be changed whenever one is faulty?

*
they all look the same so its really hard to tell. you got to ask the shop.
The bulbs is the key = if can change the bulbs then it will either use MR16 (aka GU5.3) or GU10
Some proprietary ones cannot change and they got their own looks

Example -

MR16 aka GU5.3 - this uses 12V and needs a driver
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

GU10 - this uses 240V and dont need driver
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Examples of Tracklights that cannot change bulbs yourself -
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

doesnt matter which type - just get better quality ones lor

Hi, can I know is that any LED track light can change color? From white light to warm light? Adjustable brightness?
What is the brand and roughly the price? Hope to hear from anyone that have experience or information on this. Thank you.
*
Haven't come across track lights that can change color or temperature
Get 4000K color temperature- not too white like office, not too yellow like incandescent bulbs
I really like 4000K color. Suitable for kitchen and bathrooms. I use in living room too

picture you wont be able to tell. but if you want to see, I posted here before. I cant find it. You need to search here in this forum
4000K is like the border between daylight and warm light

ok i found it but in real life, its more yellowish than this, just a tinge

How much did you pay for one set of the fixture and bulb?
*
Rm110 for the fixture. It comes with the driver.
The bulb around Rm70. Might have gone down in price by now.

u mean tracking light apart?
*
I mean the fixtures on a single track.
For mine, my track is the width of my walls
Then I space out each "bullet" maybe 2.5 feet apart. It really depends on your space and how bright you want the area lit. Make sure the tracks are not too far from the wall. 1.5 to 2 feet away from the wall depending on your ceiling height

found some interesting surface mounted "downlights" with remote, color temperature and dimming capability
You buy individual units then add as many as you like to make whatever pattern

Saw it at gearbest. It's one of those China gadget online store
Just google the name I gave earlier
Less than USD$40 each

But be careful- the photo of the light is a bit deceiving. It's smaller than it looks.

I just attract to another similar design in a shop. It is hexagon shape and combine in the pic way. But thin with wire hang.

Quite nice the design.

I keep it in my memory and try to look for china version.  tongue.gif

All also china products but not china prices only 😅
They say to control 5 modules I would need 5 remotes lol
