hi sifu-sifus,

would like to seek oppinion from u guys, currently i am headache on my living room/dining room light, i dont plan to put flat plaster ceiling as budget constraint, also not planning to put the L-box to hide the T5 light due to budget (although it looks awesome!).

So what kind of choices I have now? Is it only those normal wall-light or ceiling light? I am thinking of using all energy saving bulb for my house, but i wondering how many (let's say example 18W per bulb) to put in order to give sufficient light.

What is the affordable  way to put lighting to my living/dining room and at the same time still giving some modern feel?

thanks first :-)

There are heaps of nice ceiling mounted-type of lighting nowadays. Just a matter of searching.

Puchong, Sunway Damansara, SS2, Sungei Besi. start your search there.

LED light plus its driver will cost at least RM 60 liao tongue.gif

In general, penang lights are quite expensive (abt 2x the price of Puchong price for the same light!)

Since you're from Penang, there's more factors to consider as you need to take into account the Seawater breeze (At where I'm staying, carbon steel started rusting after 2 days being placed INDOORS without direct exposure to outside). So if you're going for mounted lights your only options are Stainless steel, aluminium, glass, plastic or powder coated metal.

If you really need to shop for lights, head over to BM or butterworth. On the island, I find that the only shops I find OK so far is KA lighting and metrolux, and also the lighting shop opposite carpark of times square. The rest are quite er, expensive.

My advice is, make a trip down to Puchong and buy your lights all 1-shot. That's what I did, I paid about 1.1k worth of lights, which cost me 3k if I got the exact same ones in Penang.

Go to Light Studio at Bayu Mutiara, near Auto City there.

The price as cheap as KL if not cheaper. They have a lot of brands too.

Thanks SnoWFish, harrychoo & dopp!

Ya I went to Metrolux sometime ago, the salesman there quite ok, KA lighting is it same company with Metrolux? Saw in HomeDEC they are together.... that time I not sure how is their pricing because they are the first shop i survey for lights.

Will take time to check out Inap and Light Studio, probably not going to Puchong coz it way too far >_<

Yes metrolux and KA is same company. You can try out both Inap and Light Studio, I never been there before but no comment. If their price is really as cheap as the shops in Puchong then that's great. In general so far the lights I find in Pg so far are quite expensive.

Must drop by in Inap one day to get my supply of GE bulbs tongue.gif.

They are one of the few places (besides SPACE and XTRA) that sell original designer lamps licensed by original manufacturers such as Artemide (which had a shop in Starhill but tutup already).

But would you even spend thousands on a floor lamp? Could you settle for a 'rip-off' Arco or Tolomeo Mega from "G.D.O." (which the name itself is a rip-off from the Hong Kong company "G.O.D."), Harvey Norman, or Timeless Designs... or perhaps you just won't even bother getting 'famous classics' because a neighbourhood lighting store would stock something 'inspired' by the original anyway for a fraction of the price, albeit with very different quality control and no "Made in Italy" laser-engraved on the enclosure?

(perhaps a good comparison would be designer bags!)

Sorry to tumpang the thread but I am renovating my house too and have a few questions to ask.

1. How much is the downlight 6'' housing? (standard price) like this one
Attached Image

2. Can this downlight housing accommodate all types of bulbs? (LED, etc)

3. ...and lastly how much exactly an LED bulb cost? Because I read it from somewhere it can cut the letricity bill by 70%.. If that is the case..Won't installing LED light fixture save you more $$ in a long run?

Thanks

LED bulb is not really save or efficient. Many will get con or confuse with the always compare the watt bulb with the LED bulb.

The true comparison is the watt/lumens of the bulb output. LED till now is not higher lumen than energy saving bulb.

The last I saw 5.5watt LED bulb cost RM115. Not china brand but toshiba japan.
