guys, newbie to blu-ray here. I just got myself a Panasonic BD-60 player and updated the firmware to the latest thru internet. However when I try to play a copy of Jet Li "Fearless" that i got from my fren, it won't run. It will show the main menu, then when i press start movie, blank screen for awhile then jump back to the main menu. :-( is it because the CD is region locked? is bd player bought in m'sia can't play other region blu-ray? The fearless BD my fren bought from UK if not mistaken but can play fine in his ps3. please help~!!

P.S : I bought Michael Buble BD from Speedy and can play in my player. How leh?

Avatar Collector's Edition Blu-ray with 45 Minutes of Deleted Material

During an interview with MTV, James Cameron dropped some more bits of information regarding the still-unannounced Collector's Edition Blu-ray release of Avatar. The Canadian-born filmmaker revealed that the release will include 45 minutes of deleted, unfinished footage - and that's not counting the 16 extra minutes of the Blu-ray extended cut (which will include an opening scene set on Earth).

The economics dictated the amount of footage that could be finished and integrated with the movie. "We got the budget to finish these nine minutes [in the theatrical re-release], and we got the budget to finish the 16-minute longer version," explained Cameron, but beyond that, "it didn't make sense to finish all the extra CG and visual effects." This footage will thus be presented in rougher form, as rendered in real time by the virtual camera, whose quality is described by Cameron as similar to that of "an old video game."

One of the scenes that did make it to the Blu-ray extended cut is the much talked about opening sequence set on a dystopian Earth, which is about four and a half minutes long. Cameron said separately to The Oregonian: "If you buy the box set in November, you can sit down, and in a continuous screening of the film, watch it with the Earth opening." The studio spent about a million dollars to finish the visual effects on that scene.

He also warned that, in the extended version, "it just takes a long time to get the movie started and that one must "be sort of predisposed to like the movie like a fan."

Although there are things "you will never see," Cameron confirmed that the upcoming "big box set" that his team is now working on will "definitely satisfy the appetite of even the most hard-core fan."

Avatar: Collector's Edition will come out on Blu-ray on November 16. This street date and a cover image were revealed on the trailer for A Message from Pandora, an special feature on an environmental campaign in Brazil, produced by James Cameron and to be included in the Collector's Edition Blu-ray.

It has also been revealed elsewhere that the Collector's Edition will feature an extended cut of the movie with 16 additional minutes, including a deleted opening sequence set on Earth; and that 45 minutes of unfinished material will be available (see blu-ray.com, August 24 and August 27).

as i have mark it down in my wishlist , i think of writing a complaint to amazon uk telling them why no inform me when price go up

Report: Avatar 3D Blu-ray Exclusive for Panasonic in December; Sony Gets Alice

Confirming earlier reports (see Blu-ray.com, May 23), HollywoodinHidef.com has it from a "well-placed source" that a 3D Blu-ray release of Avatar  will be released on December 1, but it will be exclusively available with the purchase of Panasonic 3D TVs and Blu-ray players. In turn, a 3D BD of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will be bundled with Sony 3D hardware.

In February, Avatar director James Cameron had said to the Wall Street Journal that a 3D Blu-ray of the movie would come out in November (see Blu-ray.com, February 18). That was promptly denied by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with a note that said verbatim: "3D is in the conceptual stage and Avatar will not be out on 3D Blu-ray in November" (see Blu-ray.com, February 19).

The exclusivity period hasn't been specified for either title, but is said to be "unusually long" for Avatar. 

The (2D) Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Avatar will be released in November.
