HBO greenlit Season 3.
QUOTE HBO RENEWS GAME OF THRONES FOR THIRD SEASON Source hereFirst Episode Of The Second Season Has Already Grossed 8.3 Million Viewers LOS ANGELES, April 10, 2012 – HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a third season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. “Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season – and then surpassed them,” said Lombardo. “We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we’ve received for the series, and can’t wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.” Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, GAME OF THRONES is an epic drama set in the world of Westeros, where ambitious men and women of both honor and ill-repute live in a land whose summers and winters can last years. The Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning fantasy series began its ten-episode second season Sunday, April 1 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), with other episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time. Among the early critical praise for the second season, Newsday called GAME OF THRONES “the best show on television,” while the Los Angeles Times termed the series “a cinematic feast” and “masterful.” The Wall Street Journal hailed the show as “magnificent” and USA Today called it “near perfection.” According to early data, GAME OF THRONES’ season two premiere has already accumulated a gross audience of 8.3 million viewers, and is on track to easily surpass the season one average of 9.3 million viewers. Season two cast members include: Emmy® and Golden Globe winner Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aidan Gillen, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Sophie Turner, Jack Gleeson and Alfie Allen. Season two credits: The executive producers of GAME OF THRONES are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger; co-executive producers, George R.R. Martin, Vanessa Taylor, Alan Taylor, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis; produced by Bernadette Caulfield. This post has been edited by xy2610: Apr 11 2012, 12:53 AM |

hope season 3 no more 10 EP. 10 EP too short for a season IMO. Make it the regular 20-22/24.

QUOTE(Boldnut @ Apr 11 2012, 11:25 AM) It will be 10 episodes long.I would rather have quality than quantity for the Song of Ice and Fire series. Season 3 only covers half of Book 3, according to GRRM. He will be writing episode 7 of Season 3 with the working title "Autumn Storms". |

The night is dark and full of terrors! well... i won't be surprise if HBO pull the stunt of cancelling the season half way... judging by JRRM haven't complete his final 2 books yet, and the expanding cast and budgets... soon it will be too expensive to film just an episode, especially for Peter Dinklage, as Tyrion still will be in the next few seasons as the main cast, you can expect his paycheck to increase as his fame increases as well. Added on April 12, 2012, 1:35 pmbtw... no advance Ep3 this week from HBO Go? This post has been edited by greyshadow: Apr 12 2012, 01:35 PM |

QUOTE(greyshadow @ Apr 12 2012, 01:29 PM) Nay~!!! Pray to R'hllor !! burn the Seven!! Well it all boils down to how greedy the tv network becomes.. in most cases it's not about the cost but how much they are willing to spend. Personally i don't see them cancelling the show because for a fact they have never had a hit show like this before, cancelling it will sure be a disaster for them. |

Thankfully large part of the settings can be shot on the natural landscape across the UK. I remember when Rome was cancelled because it was so expensive to design and create those sets. HBO came out saying some years later that they regretted this decision. I don't think they will repeat this mistake again. |

OT a bitbasically another main reason for Rome's cancellation is they run out of original stories unlike GoT, which is based on existing popular novel, Rome are based on popular historical figures, and basically after the death of Anthony & Cleopatra, and one of the main cast, there isn't much story to tell after that man... i missed Pullo |

Pullo was a proper badass haha. Man i miss that show.
But yeah, you are right the death of 2 lovers made the story much less appealing. Originally, the story arc of Cleo and Anthony was meant to be slowly developed in 2 separate seasons; season 3 and 4. Season 2 was originally planned to center around Brutus. Season 5, the final season, would tell the story of Jesus and how Rome dealt with him. But when HBO told season 2 was going to be the last season, the producers decided to just cramp everything into season 2 - minus Jesus. |
