Would be very good if there is a firmed date. Why is there so much to do next week? PAM dinner, Arthur's Day, Owls of Gahole, Civilization V, etc. etc. etc.

This is unofficial. I'm quoting from the air. No sources. Just creating something out of nothing.

OK...now that you all know that I'm not referring to anyone...DiGi & Maxis were playing the waiting game. See who announce the pricing first, so the other party can counter. Also, they have known since long ago because of spies (que conspiracy theory), but they need solid evidence. DiGi "announced" but didn't reveal pricing so Maxis, with the spy source that they had, were convinced their deal is much better, and for DiGi to change their pricing structure now, it would take quite some time to overhaul. Furthermore, Apple had an agreement. They have a minimum price and percentage of royalty. Thus, Maxis released their pricing.

DiGi was sneaky. They already had plan B, C & D. Now they are revising which would suit their stockholders better. BTW, DiGi's and Maxis' royalty agreement with Apple is different. So is Celcom.

Anyway, all that is conspiracy theory cooked up by me. No sources. I'm going to get iPhone 4 without contract...IF that is even possible on first day.

Added on September 20, 2010, 9:40 pmOh, and DiGi could release based on Plan A anyway since, well, most people don't like Maxis' data plan...

I'll be getting the iPlan RM88 if it remained the same, but I do not want the iPhone 4, so if anyone wanted the phone without the contract, just contact me via PM.

But, I won't sell it at RRP, most probably I will sell it RM100-RM200 cheaper than RRP, but ultimately, it's your choice to get it from me, or suffer 2 years contract, or buy completely independent set.

Why I won't use the phone? Because I am actually getting it for my Desire HD.

QUOTE(whoopa @ Sep 20 2010, 09:54 PM)
sorry to derail why waste money on a iphone plan at rm88 with 1gb data cap. you can either get rm68 for 3gb with PAYU phone charges or Rm58 3gb + rm30 phone package?
*
(RM88 x 12 x 2) - RM2690 = -RM578 (he earns RM578 & ability to use the data)

(RM68 x 12 x 2) = RM1632 (he loses RM1632)

According to the report, both the iPhone 4 and the 8 GB iPhone 3GS are launching in Malaysia this upcoming Thursday, September 23rd.

Guys, just to share this:

22 September 2010 -
26 September 2010
DIGI ROADSHOW
To promote DiGi mobile packages and services
Lower Ground Floor @ 1Utama

Source: http://www.1utama.com.my/Event/Eventlist.aspxe

Maybe this event may ring a bell to those who have registered for interest previously for Digi's iPhone offering?

Perhaps the same thing happening again for iPhone 4 this time?
*
Be there at the Roadshow to find out :-) I know I'll be there.

QUOTE(tinkerbel @ Sep 21 2010, 05:14 PM)
@prash,
Like I said... please STOP ALL speculations about DiGi's plans... please!!!!!!!
*
I don't understand Tinkerbell. What constitute as speculation on DiGi plans? They discussed about the plans with pricing? I didn't see them doing that in the last 50 posts. They are just waiting anxiously for DiGi to announce the plans, and are guessing whether there is any announcement today. Also, they are hoping that DiGi would have better pricing than Maxis, and possibly, selling the phone outright without contract.

In football forum - speculation is when they predict the scores. Predicting the first eleven would not constitute as speculation and is welcomed in that thread.

In real world sense, speculate is to project something that is non-existing for a certain reason - like speculating land price so that the land may appreciate in value.

QUOTE(xaw5126 @ Sep 21 2010, 05:18 PM)
@prash
enjoy your dream world, where businesses actually care about one solitary complainer, who can't answer a simple question.

ANSWER THIS ONE > does Maxis n Digi make ANY profit by selling you a phone without a contract?

freedom? you're free to buy any other phone on the market. Apple doesn't owe you anything. why don't you ask Astro to sell you the dish without the service?

and please don't use LYN as a credible source. last time I checked, the forumers posting here don't work for Maxis / Digi.
*
If you do not work with DiGi or Maxis, who are you to say that they do not earn any profit by selling the phone outright?

People want ASTRO for the TV channels (services), the dishes and decoder (physical items) are secondary. People want iPhone for the phone (physical item), the data and line (services) are secondary because they want to be able to choose their own service provider. Your analogy is flawed.

QUOTE(xaw5126 @ Sep 21 2010, 05:32 PM)
@prash
not enough sense. I'm saying Digi primarily makes only a few ringgit from the iPhone. not enough to justify all the extra stuff they have to do to comply with Apple's rules.
yeah, lets move on.
*
Again, if you do not work with DiGi or Apple, who are you to know that DiGi do not earn more than a few ringgit from selling the iPhone outright?

QUOTE(prash @ Sep 21 2010, 05:22 PM)
Okay since u asked for an answer here it is. Commonsense really.
The retail price claimed by Maxis is RM2290. Do you think Maxis buy the phone from Apple at RM2290? Of course there is profit margin there la. Anyway most people will go for the plans because its cheaper. I am just saying they shouldnt deny the minority who would like or cannot afford commitments. I am using maxis here cause DiGi has not release the retail price.

Why do u have to get so worked up? Did i say something offensive?
*
Prash, save your breath. I sympathize with you.

For telco complaints, you may lodge a complain to MCMC/SKMM

It is the same for insurance/banking/finance, complaint to Bank Negara.
@clayclws,

For hot products in Malaysia now, like iPhone 4, telcos will not sell direct for the first few months. They don't earn much from a single sale to one user, with all the promo/marketing cost. Telco would rather tie you down for 12-24 months contract, i.e. recurring monthly revenue for them.

Therefore, if they do sell direct, do not expect below 2.4k for 16GB or below 2.8k for 32GB. Most probably similiar price like previous 3GS, RM2490 and RM2990.

There is no doubt telcos earn money from selling phones outright. Xaw's point is probably that telcos earn a lot more from contracts and since demand should far exceed supply now, they might want to give priority to people who want the contracts so it's a long shot that they'd sell them outright from the off. It's a reasonable guess.

It's just the way he says things though; he often makes personal attacks and comes across as very confrontational. The guy should really take a chill pill.  tongue.gif
*
Yes. I would say that from a business point of view, selling with contract would earn more. I said, "who are you to know that DiGi do not earn more than a few ringgit from selling the iPhone outright?"

But please, read my post again. I was responding to the other guys' post. If he does not work at Maxis, DiGi or Apple, he should not assume he knows better than others, and at the same time, personally attack others. No one knows how much telcos earn by selling outright or with contract, except those in DiGi, Maxis and Apple.

The stock ran out but around 5.30pm, was restocked. I know because I was there from 4pm till 6pm, and I got my iPhone 4 32GB.

Added on September 25, 2010, 7:31 pmI would like to add that DiGi DOES NOT sell the iPhone 4 OUTRIGHT. They would only sell the iPhone 4 outright with discount of RM300 to current iDiGi plan subscriber (meaning owners of iPhone 3Gs) in November 2010.

Also, supplementary lines CANNOT subscribe to iDiGi plans or buy an iPhone (whatever iPhone) from DiGi.

You can try SS2, Digital Mall, MidValley (surprisingly very little people there), 1U, etc. I suggest go SohoKL lah.

*
40% sale, yes. Things you see here in the garage sale that goes for rm150+ would be rm70+ there. But they are all lame products. Get a clear / matt protector if you want, and go look for better casing elsewhere.

Wanted to ask, what if I am unsatisfied with the antenna attenuation problem of the iPhone 4 on the Digi network, am I able to return the phone for a full refund within a stipulated time frame (e.g. 30 days)?
*
The problem is not really that bad even though DiGi has the lousiest coverage and network amongst the Big 3. I've tried to emulate that death grip and thus far, my calls hadn't drop. Furthermore, you are going to protect your investment with a casing...so I think, it would be alright.

I tried death grip today at my home in Setapak. Yes the death grip is there and the signal dropped.
I then try again at Chillis Mid Valley. Full bar and even i hold as tight using the death grip, it didin't drop.

BTW, the karnival at Maxis the Gardens got more casing choices. I bought mine there.
Luckily I did not buy anything at The Quill Digi Karnival. Too limited choice
*
QUOTE(davidmak @ Sep 25 2010, 11:52 PM)
Actually in strong coverage areas, the problem is still there. Remember Apple did a software update to reduce the number of reception bars and how the bars react depending on signal intensity? Apple made the bars going strong even though signal intensity has actually dropped. If you run the Apple Field Test hidden menu, you will see RSSI values. On average, with death grip... it will drop around 20dB which is actually very low (around -108dB, strong RSSI is around -80dB to -60dB).

So the problem is still there. Just hidden from the consumer since Apple change the way the reception bars represent RSSI values. This has been widely covered by Anandtech and Engadget.
*
QUOTE(ryantoo80 @ Sep 25 2010, 11:53 PM)
I tried mine too but no signal dropping issue...i think it depends on area...i bought at times square no prob, bec to my home at pj, no prob...
*
The issue is still there, just not very pronounced. When I bought iPhone 4, I was afraid that there will be issue seeing that DiGi has lousy coverage and network. I stand corrected. The drop is minimal. I hadn't had drop calls, so...so far so good. I bet it will happen if I continue to test.

This proves one thing though. AT&T must have sucked really bad...

Are you serious that coverage for digi is that bad ? I am thinking of changing over from Maxis.
I use mostly in kl, pg, nort south highway and occassionly in kl, tawau and alor star.
If that bad will not change over.
Please give feedback before I take the leap.
Thanks.
*
DiGi is really bad. There was a forummer that got warned saying that you can't get reception in the toilet of a double storey building although that area has 3G and 5 line coverage. I would stand by that guy. I have similar issues.

I used to use Maxis which has very good coverage in Peninsular (and quite sucky back in my hometown in Sarawak), and I can guarantee that you will complain about DiGi line. But I kept on with DiGi because unlike Maxis, there is no hidden charges for data. All the people who think they can control data usage is in for a shock. Maxis will charge you if you use data when you are not in 3G coverage mode or sudden lost of 3G signal (which is very common) because their data plan is only for 3G. If it happens that it switched to GPRS or EDGE, then those would be additional charges. But you won't know when it would change. That is my personal experience and thus, I switched to DiGi.

QUOTE(CapKapak @ Sep 25 2010, 11:58 PM)
Ok so all bores back to my initial question, what are the T&C's with respect to returns for this antenna attenuation issue. Is there a "cooling-off" period and are we entitled to a full refund if not entirely happy with the issue?

I bought iPhone 3G Australia version and was on Maxis back in 2008. That was my personal experience. I hated the bill shock. So I switched. I don't know what has happened now that Maxis officially distribute iPhone. I will not switch back because of that. Also, Maxis is a crony of UMNO, so...

You better do something about that supplementary line. Search this thread. I think someone mentioned something about it a while ago.

But only main line can apply for iphone4.
*
That is ASSUMING the supplementary line wants to convert to DiGi too. BTW, supplementary line cannot sign up for any iDiGi plans. Meaning your supplementary line CANNOT buy iPhone 4 from DiGi.

1. You don't need any photostat from supp. You dont event need them to be there.
2. They didn't require you to pay upfront monthly fee. Only pay for the phone RM 2090 if you are porting in.
3. Double check everything. Documents, customer copies, your MICRO sim card, your Credit Cards && your Supp! Some of the staff there practically have no idea what they are doing at times.

1 thing i dun fully understand by this

http://www.digi.com.my/iphone/getone_want_...ne_payment.html

look on the Option 1: Buy with Cash/Credit Card

1.  let's take iDigi88 16GB for example. RRP is RM2290, buy with Digi is RM1490.  Savings will be RM800
2.  but we need to fork out RM2090, instead of RM 1490.  Where does the RM 800 gone??

3.  den let's take iDigi238.  As written, saves RM2000 off RM2290, so means RM290 for iphone4 16GB.
4.  Fork out RM2090, where does the RM1800 hilang

5.  the 2nd T& C written  "Savings* = RM200 savings will be deducted upfront from the RRP amount and the balance savings will be credited equally over 24 months in your monthly DiGi bill."

6. why suddenly got RM 200 saving pulak?

any one can help up to clear this matter? thanks thanks

Added on September 26, 2010, 12:45 amby the way, I had called Digi Customer Service, and said will get back n put me on hold for 10 min... does that means no customer asking this question at all??
*
Basically, it is just telling you that your plan is supposed to be RM88 for the iDiGi88. But now you only pay RM63...or RM58 (with auto billing). So you saved RM88 - RM63 = RM25 per month. For 24 months, that equates to RM600. The give you another RM200 discount for the phone, so now, you get RM800 savings. If you sign up for auto billing, you get another RM63 - RM58 = RM5 savings per month. That's another RM120 savings. So you get RM920 savings in total.
