The party hot spot of Salou was invaded by hordes of scantily-clad youngsters from British universities, who drank and had sex on the beach during the 'Saloufest' celebrations in March, reports express.co.uk.
The local council has toughened its regulations to improve the image of the resort town on the Costa Dorada, 70 miles south of Barcelona.
Bylaws will see police cracking down on drinking in the streets away from cafes and bars and couples having sex in the open air.
Beachwear, including bikinis, will also be banned from all but beachfront restaurants and bars. Those who break the rules will face fines.
Alberto de Hierro, councillor in charge of tourism said: 'We want people to dress adequately for each occasion. It is not normal to go to the market or round tourist sites in a thong. It gives the city a low- class look.'
