For future owners reference,All Atom based netbook will only support 2GB RAM maximum.This is the limitation that comes with the Intel 945 chipset.

Future chipset may support larger amount of RAM.

You can try asking how much to replace the 3 cell battery with this seller.
Basically what he'll do is strip your original battery from the battery casing & replaced it with new batteries.
Much cheaper,good workmanship,quality product & got warranty too.
You can ask upgrade to 6 cell battery too if your battery casing can fit 6 batteries.

Got my HP Mini 110 from Unipack today.
Opened & used HP's customized Windows 7 starter edition for 30 minutes.
Got fed up with all the stinking bloatware so I decided to format the entire hard disk(yes,including the recovery partition)
Before I format the hard disk I extracted all the drivers so in case I have drivers problem I can restore the default drivers.
So I formatted with my heavily modified Windows 7 Home Premium & everything working fine now.Performance much better than what I expected from Atom based netbook.

Ubuntu have to wait for a while for me.Busy now.Anyway I might just wait for 10.10 version in October.

After countless complains
I got the 3 cell battery too.I've continuously downloaded files with wifi for 2 hours with still about 40% battery left.Not bad for puny laptop.
I planned to upgrade to 2GB RAM but now most probably I'll stick to 1GB.Lazy to open the casing plus 1GB is enough to run my custom 7 Home Premium.

HP Mini 110 304TU comes with DDR2 800MHz RAM.So you better buy the same speed of RAM.
Initially CPU-Z showed that this motherboard supports DDR3 RAM.Need to confirm this with intel website later.

Still available but there is no point buying 667MHz because it's exactly the same price & older laptops can automatically downgrade the speed if only lower speed supported.

You can check what are functions that starter editions don't support.
For me I use the network functions a lot.I have more than 5 computers at home.So functions such as network printer sharing certainly comes handy.
You guys can look for Windows 7 Home Premium as this covers most of the usual functions and the price also not too high.Students might get discount.

Most probably there are some files HP saved under that account folder.Admins should be able to delete normal accounts.But I don't know whether admins can delete another admins account.You can try it as no harm will occur.
As I said before it's best if you just format the entire drive to get clean HP bloatware/files free netbook.
I think you can download windows 7 installer dvd legally from some sites & activate using the HP Win7 dvd key.I'll try this confirm later on when I have time.

This is a site to download Windows 7 LEGALLY.It's legal cause all windows 7 comes with 30 days of trial period & you need to buy a serial key in order to continue use the windows.
You need to extract the iso files & delete the ei.cfg files in order to get all the windows edition options.
As I said before I don't know whether HP's serial key can be used to activate this version of Windows 7 starter.

For browsing(Mozilla) & word processing 1GB should be fine.
Use third party software.Google for "change wallpaper in windows 7 wallpaper change".
Ubuntu is linux based operating system.

Tick the "show hidden files & folders & hide protected system files" in folder options".
Navigate to C:Uzers/<insert the username u want>/AppData
Check what apps you have there.If you have the apps installed there,you can remove the account & reinstall back under your account.
You can saving files through cross cable connection.Though I'm not sure whether starter edition do support this network connection.
My windows 7 home premium barely uses 400MB RAM on idle.600MB RAM usage happens only when I open multiple tab in Firefox.

If I'm not mistaken you university must have MSDNA subscription in order to get this kind of offer.

You can try opening the backpart of the netbook & try to take out the hard disk & plug it again.Loose hard disk connection can cause error like this.

It's very easy to open this netbook.Take out the battery slide the orange stick to left side till the backpart pop up abit.Then you can just apply some force to pull out the case.This won't void the warranty btw.

If your hard disk do have bad sector then I do recommend you to send the netbook to HP service center.You can use some software to isolate the bad sector but it's not a permanent solution.The bad sector will continue to exist.

Since it's just a hard disk replacement it should be done within 1 week.
I just send my Compaq CQ42 for motherboard replacement & they replaced it within 9 days.So their service quiet fast.

Even 1 bad sector is enough for you to claim warranty.

1 thing I notice with HP is they are very generous toward advanced users.Last time we cannot dismantle anything because there were stickers here & there to know whether users dismantle the laptop or not but nowdays there are hardly any.
Like in my Compaq CQ42 case I practically dismantle every-part but still can claim warranty.Seems like all the service center just accept all warranty claims.

I still cannot find the service manual for HP Mini 110 304-TU model.

Mine is running at 45C.
Checked it two days ago & now.But the low temperature could be because I'm staying at 16th floor.
Will check the temp again in normal ground tomorrow.

I disable the QuickWeb since I don't use it at all.

If you're on 3 cell battery than it's normal.
HP mini is using wide screen.Even if you forced 1024*768 the screen will look stretched.
If you still want to change the reso then maybe you should try download different drivers from intel website.
