Heard of wubi , google for it , download. You can install ubuntu and keep windows. Dont like ubuntu , simply remove it from windows. You still preserve your MBR , recovery partition and everything else.
Easier this way rather then you going through a complicated method

QUOTE(win7 @ Jul 26 2010, 09:17 PM) ok, now lets make the problem become simpler... since I dun have external DVD drive, can I backup the " Recovery" into 4GB Thumbdrive, or external (USB) HDD ?? Then, I only Copy the "Recovery" from the Thumbdrive or ext HDD to my Desktop PC, then only Burn to a DVD ? can I ? You need to preserve the MBR. Otherwise its useless , you need to copy few things. Get Norton ghost , see if you can copy. If you're a cheap bastard like me , dd should do the trick. Whats dd you ask , well google for it.

QUOTE(win7 @ Jul 26 2010, 09:33 PM) ok master prasys, thanks for enlighten me... actually, may I know how is the " Recovery" can affect my Netbook in future? I wanna know, what is so important about " Recovery"? perhaps inside it got Drivers, .... ? Windows 7 starter cannot be obtained. Its meant for OEM , basically if you remove it you are not able to "restore" your netbook the way how it was. Thats all You should get Acronis Partition tool

QUOTE(win7 @ Jul 26 2010, 09:39 PM) wait wait wait, how about we use Network method? since the Netbook and my Desktop both running Windows 7, then through the Homegroup (Network), use the Desktop DVD burner to backup Netbook Recovery via Network line? anyone understand what am I talking? That kind of technology is only possible with MacOS X. I am not sure if there is a tool in windows which does that http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1131Try to search for Virtual Burner windows Anyway found one http://www.noteburner.com/This allows you to burn virtually , which should give you an iso format , transfer it to your desktop and burn it

QUOTE(win7 @ Jul 27 2010, 09:19 PM) ok guys, i have tried both the EASEUS Partition Tool & the Acronis Partition Tool, but none of them work for my problem... EASEUS: Acronis: Ah thats the limitation of MBR/BIOS MBR only allows up to 4 , EFI (found on Macs and newer BIOSes/PCs) can do a lot Basically you gotta reformat it. Primary partitions are partitions whereby the system is able to boot. It will get very complicated if I go in depth. If you want to know the reason why you can't , its because of MBR , it only allows up to 4. So you have all 4. You cannot make primary partitions.

QUOTE(fcuk90 @ Jul 27 2010, 10:50 PM) after i type such command in the terminal , it show no such directory. Whats the command @win7 - Sorry , thats how it works. Thats why we have GPT. Sadly only OS that takes advantage (well two) are linux and umm OSX . Windows fails to see GPT (unless you're talking bout server/enterprise edition) . GPT allows you to dynamically resize and make new partitions from free space. You are not limited to 4 primary partitions. That means you can have like 15 OSes installed on one HDD !

QUOTE(zx12 @ Jul 29 2010, 02:21 AM) Guys..how come the battery icon in the taskbar does not show the estimated battery life remaining in terms of time..mine only shows a percentage..i notice that certain laptops will show how many minutes remaining.. is this a limitation of windows 7 starter edition? It takes a while for the battery to get data on how long would it last. Few calibrations and I've seen it kinda common on certain HP laptops. I think it works well with ubuntu , ubuntu should give how long the battery lasts.

QUOTE(MsPopcorn @ Jul 29 2010, 08:38 PM) i didnt curse dual-boot users le.. bcox i been install 2 windows in my pc b4..then when i send the cpu over technician to fix smtg..he told me better not to install 2 windows.. otherwise 1 crash, may affect the other wins..then dangerous to ur HDD. So, i play safe..jz install 1 wins from the day till now.. Clearly he knows little or nothing at all. little knowledge is dangerous Anyway you have have 2 Windows. You can choose not to see the other partition in the system. As long as the system does not mount or assign a letter to other windows partition. You should be good to go , aka windows 1 cant see windows 2 , so on and so forth

QUOTE(win7 @ Jul 30 2010, 01:36 AM) I dont use homegroup , just enable sharing normally. Homegroup kinda sucks The steps are bit complicated , kinda hard for me to post one by one when i am on Windows 7 right now on my mac. I'll hop back to a PC , its because the mac uses a GPT style whereby all my partitions are primary
