Use the Xbox button on the controller. Press and hold it for a few seconds. U know how right? For me that is the preferred way.

let the console idle for few minutes after playing games before turning it off.
it makes the chips less heat before the fans stop turning. smile.gif

TS asking for ways to prolong his 360 lifespan.
i am telling him ways to make the component have less heat trapped inside.
heat is a silent killer to chips.

I just press the big fat button on the console.
This piece of junk doesn't worth the time and efforts to take good care of it.

Surprise to find out nobody use the method I personally prefer. Anyway, just another option here:

Press XBOX logo to launch the Blade Menu(During Game/Dashboard), go to Settings > Turn off Console

=)

Whatever and however you turn off the XBOX 360. DO NOT shut off the main power until the LED indicator on the power brick turns orange (standby mode).

Why? When you turn off the console it will briefly run the fan up to full power to cool it down to prevent heat soak.

Trust me, what you know is history. No matter what chips they are as long as the design is tested and it operates according to recommended heat management system.

however you turn it off, it doesn't matter. its gonna be a gamble depending on the manufacturing.

if it does go RROD, then too bad... X-Box 360 is a delicate item. unlike the first X-Box, now that can take some beating!
