Steam gets some maintenance downtime Monday morning
Posted Oct 10th 2010 9:00AM by John Callaham
Filed under: Downloads
If you want to get a game from Steam on Monday morning there's a good chance you won't be able to so. Valve has announced that its PC game download service will be offline for the most part on the morning of October 11 in order to do some software maintenance on Steam's server software.

The downtime is scheduled to begin on Monday at 4 am Pacific time (7 am Eastern time). Valve says the changes will cause things like the Steam store to be offline along with the matchmaking software and more. The upgrades to the server software should be completed by about 11 am Eastern time on Monday.

eh..killing floor price increased to 19.99????

Hmm... that's weird. The normal price in our region is $14.99, since I did a comparison before & even laughed at those from US. doh.gif

EDIT: Here's the quote.

I guess this is one of the few (& rare) opportunities where we can count our blessings & be glad that we're not grouped together in the US region. tongue.gif

EDIT#2: OK guys, looks like Steam Store f*cked up. The region lock mechanism isn't working. Games that are previously region-locked such as Lost Planet 2 & GTA 4 are shown in the store now. Hurry up if you wanna stock up on some of the games that are previously not available here!

P.S. I haven't tested if I can buy any of these region-locked games. tongue.gif

yeah, thats why i wondering why it increased. Today seems to go back down to $14.99, but guild wars eye of the north increased to 20 bucks even with a 33%! it was 13 something
*
Yeah, all except Guild Wars (I made a personal price list myself) went back to normal not long after I make that post you quoted. Not sure if Steam missed out on it or anything but since it's not something I intended to buy, I made no noise about it. sweat.gif

Might as well get it from GG instead & you'll have a baby green dragon for free. At least it's confirmed in GG at this point in time.

There has been an internal error initializing your transaction. Please contact support for assistance.

And cannot purchase anymore games. Sian. sad.gif

Have you tried again for the second time? Sometimes Steam goes emo & it's something to be expected once in a while, particularly when there's big sales going on.

Based on his post in the TF2 thread, I think his problem has been resolved... for now.

EDIT: Nevermind. It appears that he can buy TF2 items but not Steam games. tongue.gif

Railworks 2 | -50% | $19.99 (if you're an existing owner of Railworks, upgrade to Railworks 2 is free!)
The Ball | -10% | $17.99 (Pre-purchase before Oct 26th and receive 10% off plus an exclusive in-game character for Killing Floor!)

Hey thanks Gormaz for the detailed explanation!

Do expect DRM though since unlike Steam, GG doesn't make in mandatory to connect to the Internet to get a game running. That's the bad news but the good news is, you can always contact the friendly GG support to reset the DRM activation limit should you shoot pass the threshold. But not everyone like to have DRM installed in their system. unsure.gif

Back to Steam... I wonder what will we have for midweek. hmm.gif

eh ... actually, is 19.99 or 49.99 ?

the ?cc=my is it actually referring to malaysia or?

You're right. Without going through proxy, Mass Effect 2 is $49.99 while with US proxy, it's $19.99.
