Thanks for the info! still thinking about getting this or china brand that have a better chipset. What's your opinon on this?
*
The choice still up to you. What's are most critical features you need from player? Are the features in Playon series or in other brands? What's your budget? Playon series normally more expensive than China brands. For me, the Playon built quality quite good.

What happen to Acryan now? No firmware updates since last two months, lots of unresolved issues.

Looking to change media player now, any idea if WDTV Live is better?
*
A.C.Ryan Europe declared bankrupt, but A.C.Ryan Singapore still operate. I think firmware release will be more slower now since they in critical condition.

Btw does my mini hd2 have any revision software? Last I checked my unit firmware is released feb this year.

So far the unit is great and everything is working fine. However the Internet services like muzee music and you tube isn't working and causes the player to reset.

The stable firmware is V9.5.5.r7317 (7-Feb-2012).

To resolve youtube problem. Use this firmware v9.5.5.r8755 (Beta).

I'm not sure the firmware v.9.5.5.r8755 stable enough for daily use or not because I never use youtube with this player. I still using firmware v.9.5.5.r7317.

QUOTE(Clavicus @ Sep 15 2012, 01:23 AM)
Hello guys.

I'm looking for a media player for the living room in my house. It'll be used by my parents and my teenage sister, since i won't be staying at home for the foreseeable future and I want them to enjoy watching movies a little bit more. I'll try to make this easier by listing down the few features I'm looking for in a media player:

1) accepts internal hard disk (3.5"). I'm recycling the hard drive I'm currently using for my desktop.

2) simple user interface/GUI, as my parents will be using the device. I'll be around once in a while, so firmware updates will  not be an issue.

3) wide range of file support out of the box, with minimal configuration. This is one of the reason why I'm looking at a media player from AC Ryan over other (Chinese) brands. Little things would be thought out (I hope), so the player would be as plug-and-play as it gets.

4) USB 3.0 ports would be a bonus, but not necessary.

5) My budget is RM500 or below, do tell me if that's not enough/excessive for my intended purpose.
If there are any other features that I should know about, I'm more than eager to find out. Thanks fellas!

I think Playon!HD2 quite meet your requirements from point 1 to point 4. Regarding the price, I'm not follow up closely, don't know current market price, you need survey few shops.

Maybe your firmware file corrupted. Try re-download the firmware from the link.

Then re-flash 7317 firmware use "safe-mode method". (Instructions below download link)

The first post Acryan Spec. Audio supported Dolby 5.1 (downmixed to stereo)
Means cannot support 5.1 ?
*
The player can support 5.1. It will downmixed to stereo once use AV cable (normally 3 colour: White, Red, Yellow). If use optical fiber cable or HDMI cable, it will passthrough audio to home theater system for process.
