... yr tv hdmi slot was not in best shape, it happens. Nope, I'm cocksure, there's nothing wrong in that department.
... or yr hdmi cable is defective - these cables last 2-3 yrs, can corrupt quickly too. I still use that cable now for my Astro Beyond at another TV..nothing wrong so far.

try the pohd on another tv with a new cable, u will hv the firm answer. Already tried. Its confirmed there's a circuitry defect.

firmware... slow, etc... i suspect u did not turn off the file scanning feature. File scanning always turned off. I always reconfigure at minimal features, only the ones essential to me..as far as I can remember.

Playon Essential HD

I just bought 2 weeks ago, now I have issues with subtitles..
1) Played movie then click the subtitles then select...nothing came out
2) I add in SRT file, previously works fine but now after select the srt file the subtitles still not come out
3) How to sync the subtitle since some srt file sometime too early or too late
Please someone help me, I m new to this, previously I m using Yamaha BluRay-to-Yamaha AV receiver player then getting tired with cinavie, tried to use media player...

essential model has been around for a few years now.

is yr model new or old?

i wud be surprised if it is a new model.

it is common in old models, old firmware.

it can't read some of the newer subs.

note the srt file must be renamed same as main file but with extension .srt and must be in same folder as main file.

if one srt does not work, try another sub from a diff source, may work.

if slightly out, can sync with the subtitles function on remote. press it to bring up the menu.

if wrong sub, cannot sync at all.

i do not know much about the later ac ryan models but have 2 old ones.

yr firmware # says it is the correct asian version for the playonhd essential.

there is no more support for it i, think, like all old models.

if there are problems with the firmware, i would try reinstall the same firmware.

I did try to re install the said firmware by following the instruction but dont seems to work.did i miss something from the re installing procedures.

the problem seems to comes after i copy files direct from PC and i wonder if other user experience similar problem before

did u reinstall with up grade option or flashing it?

flashing is better to get rid of all old files and settings in there.

just copy the .img file onto usb root and then use it to flash.

should get u back to original.

AVFAN thanks for your time and assistance.previous attempt , i use the extracted zipped file folder which is not successfull .your last post give me a hint to just copy and flash the img file only and it was successful but when i check the FW compile date after re flash ,it still shows the previous date of the year 2014 and not current date.

unfortunately for some reason(s) ,the resume on function is still not functioning.guess i may have to live with it

i regret u can't get it fixed.

this is one of the things we have to deal with - tech products that go obsolete, no more support.

moreover, i think the essential is not as well built as the regular pohd's.

my pohd (v1) and pohd mini are both still working, with last firmwares, but no more support.

there are certain deficiencies like subtitles handling but i can accept.

one thing i am amazed is the 4 yr old mini can pass thru dtshdma audio when some current android boxes cannot!

i can say my money was well spent, but like many things, gotta move along.

my suggestion to you is to get a new android box which can handle all common media playback functions.

if u need hd audio output, take note: some boxes can do dtshdma, ddtrue hd, even dd atmos and dts:x while some can do only basic dts/dd.

My playonhd2 will reach 4 years oncoming July. I also have Himedia Q5 android tv. But for play a movie, I still prefer Ac Ryan. Easy setting at remote control compared to android tv. Still going strong. And my Himedia just collecting a dust.

Just additional info, if I'm facing a problem with subtitle won't come out, I will download srt file and use mkvmerge to remux the mkv file. It's really easy. So far, srt file never disappoint me.

Why so much trouble need to remux subtitle? Just DL subtitle and copy to movie directory and name the subtitle as the same name as movie but with .srt extension. Done.

Yes i know about that. But I don't like multiple file. I prefer everything in 1 file. That's what mkv container can do.

Hi, can anyone share what is the last Mini2 firmware.9.5.5 xxx?

I'm using the 9.5.5.R8755, this is the latest one, no more new update d.....

I also want to know whether my Ac Ryan can play dolby atmos and Dts x. I presume if the player can pass-through the audio via hdmi and let receiver do the job it should be ok. However i still need a sifus here to confirm it.
