yup correct...  nod.gif

I cant find "pass through" at POHD audio menu... i only find RAW... LCMI (if i not mistaken) & AUTO ... hmm.gif
*
i m surprised there is no "pass thru" option in pohd3...
this "raw" and "lcpm" were the old options on older models/firmwares.
anyway, u should set it to "raw". lcpm is used for some low grade audio files.
think u set everything right... shud work.
did u push that right button (dvd, cd1, cd2..) on the amp that will deliver audio from that optical option? tongue.gif

a quick question here if anyone has done it... for old unit, i.e. pohd1, is it easy to replace the internal hdd by yrself? is the max size 1.5 or 2tb?
just preparing for the eventuality my hdd will fail after a few years now. thanks!

any can make xbmc can run at pohd ? i on playonhd3

i wondered about this too. searched around, think answer is no.

so i bought an android tv box, played with it for a few days now:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2970945/+40
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2594654/+120

that android box does most of the things that the ac ryan does with playback, same range of format types incl bdmv/iso.
however, ac ryan's picture quality is superior, no doubt.

for serious hi grade media playback, ac ryan is better. simpler to navigate, ff/rwd, skip, copy/move/delete, etc.

android tv is more for streaming incl live tv. video quality ranges 240-720p (480p video is most stable), audio is mostly just 2.0 stereo.

i now have the both! thumbup.gif

if future ac ryan models will incl live streaming capability incl xbmc, that'll be good. but i doubt it since the mgmt did not even let pohd3 have youtube alto it can, easily. we know becos we had it even 3 yrs ago! probably a biz approach to separate the streaming from the playback. but for us consumers and users, would be nice have all of it in one box! personally, i see the media player sales declining as more and more go for streaming on hand held devices.

i m an ac ryan fan and cud hv bot the veleo.

so far, works better than i expected, great to learn a lot about android tv and streaming!

Is this the best media player out there? So many to choose from!
*
to me, ac ryan WAS the best player at one time. great value for money.

if not mistaken, it started as a dutch company, manufactured in china.

2-3 yrs ago, it was sold to a singapore co.

with a strong sgd, it is priced relatively more expensive now compared to other players.

i have 2 old ones, enjoyed them greatly, both still working but no longer supported so i run into problems sometimes.

i still think the brand is a good one but do compare with other brands/models for what u really need.

some will not hesitate to recommend u dune which is a lot more costly.

others will recommend u android based players which r more versatile, incl online streaming.

so, it's all about yr budget n yr requirements.

and mind the continuous firmware and other upgrade support over time - this is very impt.

I regret buying the AC Ryan Playon HD 1st generation. Its my bad luck, it kaput just after the 1 year warranty period and whacked my TV HDMI input till it cannot receive any HDMI input from anything. I was playing some movie and it just went blank.
Then the final firmware upgrade made the menu so slow and laggy and had to revert to the previous firmware. Was a nightmare and now defunct in my store..reluctant to pay postage and all back to S'pore to have it repaired. It show USB error after a few minutes..considered defective. No more this make again..susah!..but its my bad luck with it. sigh!
*
u mean u suspect pohd caused yr tv not to able to work with other devices?

or u mean the screen goes blank only with pohd?
if this is the case, it's not uncommon with connection player direct to tv. change to better hdmi cable will solve the problem.
think something to do with the player-cable-tv sensitivity. i also think older tv may be more sensitive too.
but if u connect player->avr->tv, no problem even with old or cheap hdmi cable, or older tv.

firmware... yes... they stopped supporting and the last one was incomplete - this, i find very unprofessional. they shud hv completed the final version, then stop supporting. likely due to the change in co. ownership, staff departure, fired, cost issues, etc...?

The HDMI at TV remains spoilt to date. You can jack anything into HDMI input 1,2 3..nothing will show up. Just to be sure it will not function with any other input such as a spare DVD player connected to it. There's nothing wrong with that DVD player. TV just show as "no signal". Surely the POHD konked the HDMI receiver chip inside. The PlayOn would work on another TV but will show a pop-up with some USB warning message. In short, both AC Ryan and TV went defective at that time. Its a rare event.
I believe the final firmware was heavy thus the existing CPU didn't have enough power nor speed to be as responsive as the previous. I was so disillusioned. I'm not entirely blaming the brand, just my run of bad luck with it.
That model was NOT cheap in my view and it lasted only 1 year +.. that pissed me off..kaput my Tv summore! damn!
*
looks to me:

... yr tv hdmi slot was not in best shape, it happens.
... or yr hdmi cable is defective - these cables last 2-3 yrs, can corrupt quickly too.

try the pohd on another tv with a new cable, u will hv the firm answer.

firmware... slow, etc... i suspect u did not turn off the file scanning feature...

Playon Essential HD

I just bought 2 weeks ago, now I have issues with subtitles..
1) Played movie then click the subtitles then select...nothing came out
2) I add in SRT file, previously works fine but now after select the srt file the subtitles still not come out
3) How to sync the subtitle since some srt file sometime too early or too late
Please someone help me, I m new to this, previously I m using Yamaha BluRay-to-Yamaha AV receiver player then getting tired with cinavie, tried to use media player...

Thanks in Advance

essential model has been around for a few years now.

is yr model new or old?

i wud be surprised if it is a new model.

it is common in old models, old firmware.

it can't read some of the newer subs.

note the srt file must be renamed same as main file but with extension .srt and must be in same folder as main file.

if one srt does not work, try another sub from a diff source, may work.

if slightly out, can sync with the subtitles function on remote. press it to bring up the menu.

if wrong sub, cannot sync at all.

hi ,anyone here care to give advise ,my resume play not functioning.firmware v543.2688.bought last year only.

thanks in advance

i do not know much about the later ac ryan models but have 2 old ones.

yr firmware # says it is the correct asian version for the playonhd essential.

there is no more support for it i, think, like all old models.

if there are problems with the firmware, i would try reinstall the same firmware.

acryan seems to have gone from media player to android player to karaoke player! biggrin.gif

AVfan thanks

I did try to re install the said firmware by following the instruction but dont seems to work.did i miss something from the re installing procedures.

the problem seems to comes after i copy files direct from PC and i wonder if other user experience similar problem before
*
did u reinstall with up grade option or flashing it?

flashing is better to get rid of all old files and settings in there.

just copy the .img file onto usb root and then use it to flash.

should get u back to original.

AVFAN thanks for your time and assistance.previous attempt , i use the extracted zipped file folder which is not successfully .your last post give me a hint to just copy and  flash the img file only and it was successful but when i check the FW compile date after re flash ,it still shows the previous date of the year 2014 and not current date.

unfortunately for some reason(s) ,the resume on function is still not functioning.guess i may have to live with it
*
i regret u can't get it fixed.

this is one of the things we have to deal with - tech products that go obsolete, no more support.

moreover, i think the essential is not as well built as the regular pohd's.

my pohd (v1) and pohd mini are both still working, with last firmwares, but no more support.

there are certain deficiencies like subtitles handling but i can accept.

one thing i am amazed is the 4 yr old mini can pass thru dtshdma audio when some current android boxes cannot!

i can say my money was well spent, but like many things, gotta move along.

my suggestion to you is to get a new android box which can handle all common media playback functions.

if u need hd audio output, take note: some boxes can do dtshdma, ddtrue hd, even dd atmos and dts:x while some can do only basic dts/dd.

I just brought my old Playon!HD ACR-PV73100 out of "retirement" from the storeroom after more than 5 years (yes, I am a tech hoarder) after its successor "died" over the weekend. Managed to download and install firmware v7.4.3.r7317(Asian).

Is there a newer version than this? If so, can someone point me in the right direction for download or maybe email it to me (along with any earlier versions that I may need)?
*
that firmware was the last one, no more.

this pohd is very durable! biggrin.gif

Sharing my experience.
DO NOT buy AC RYAN product. I used to own a PlayOn 3 Mini. It seems to be a nice product to me when I bought it. Solid casing/hardware, nice and not too laggy GUI for network browsing (not for internet), playing most files until...

I upgraded my firmware and it can't be booted anymore.

1. Firmware download from original website
2. Once firmware upgraded, it cannot be booted
3. Explain via email to support (support crap, reply after few days) and they explain hardware failure without hesitation
4. Asked me to send back the unit to them, support only in Singapore (Of cos i need to pay for the fix)

How can they assure it's hardware failure without seeing it?
Their support simply doesn't care?

Lesson learn. Just to share so that one can consider twice before buying
P.S. - Search the location of the company and ask any Spore friend, what's that place like

sorry to hear this.

this pohd3mini... final firmware was 2014... u just updated?

my pohd1, mini2... final firmwares (2012) are fine, still working today.

it is still good for playback of old files.

new formats, new subs, online streaming, it can't do.

mind u, the video and audio quality for playback from this box is good.

some new android boxes can't give same quality.

either keep for playing old files or sell it.

there are people looking for this player - i sold both of mine earlier this year.

Can't seem to get the subtitle out now.

afaik, these two models became obsolete with no new firmwares for at least 5 years already.

whatever firmware, they will not be able to read the newer subtitles.

time to get a another box.
