The choice still up to you. What's are most critical features you need from player? Are the features in Playon series or in other brands? What's your budget? Playon series normally more expensive than China brands. For me, the Playon built quality quite good.
A.C.Ryan Europe declared bankrupt, but A.C.Ryan Singapore still operate. I think firmware release will be more slower now since they in critical condition.

For me latest firmware the best so far. Previous one a bit slower for GUI display, freeze after unplug USB cable and unstable for torrent.

Btw does my mini hd2 have any revision software? Last I checked my unit firmware is released feb this year.

So far the unit is great and everything is working fine. However the Internet services like muzee music and you tube isn't working and causes the player to reset.

The stable firmware is V9.5.5.r7317 (7-Feb-2012).

To resolve youtube problem. Use this firmware v9.5.5.r8755 (Beta).

I'm not sure the firmware v.9.5.5.r8755 stable enough for daily use or not because I never use youtube with this player. I still using firmware v.9.5.5.r7317.

Just leave auto scan "ON".

Go to folders/files you want make shortcut, then press "menu" button at remote control. You can see "Add to Shortcuts" under options menu.

Keep your shop receipt in case you need claim warranty in future.

Hello guys.

I'm looking for a media player for the living room in my house. It'll be used by my parents and my teenage sister, since i won't be staying at home for the foreseeable future and I want them to enjoy watching movies a little bit more. I'll try to make this easier by listing down the few features I'm looking for in a media player:

1) accepts internal hard disk (3.5"). I'm recycling the hard drive I'm currently using for my desktop.

2) simple user interface/GUI, as my parents will be using the device. I'll be around once in a while, so firmware updates will not be an issue.

3) wide range of file support out of the box, with minimal configuration. This is one of the reason why I'm looking at a media player from AC Ryan over other (Chinese) brands. Little things would be thought out (I hope), so the player would be as plug-and-play as it gets.

4) USB 3.0 ports would be a bonus, but not necessary.

5) My budget is RM500 or below, do tell me if that's not enough/excessive for my intended purpose.

If there are any other features that I should know about, I'm more than eager to find out. Thanks fellas!

I think Playon!HD2 quite meet your requirements from point 1 to point 4. Regarding the price, I'm not follow up closely, don't know current market price, you need survey few shops.

good that u bot mini2, that's a fine machine, trust me.

ac ryan cost more but works smoothly, reliable. if one has used an ac ryan before, one will curse and swear at something less, like i said here:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2492664

too bad pohd and mini no more firmware support, 7317 is last one. beta... i dare not try.
only pohd2 and mini2 continues to get support.

anyone bot and tried that 3d model already?

Maybe your firmware file corrupted. Try re-download the firmware from the link.
http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=18239
Then re-flash 7317 firmware use "safe-mode method". (Instructions below download link)

I'm curious as well. I have one 'old' external DVD-ROM lying around unused, but can't connect directly to my LCD TV to read my data disks since it's labelled as 'unsupported device'. Is it possible to connect the external DVD-ROM to the ACRYAN and play files from my data disk onto the TV?
