So.. anybody here can enlighten me?
additional info: the boiler uses about 2000W and 1 gas tank costs about rm21.

Uhm, currently I'm using an electric boiler to boil water. My housemate says that it is more economical to boil it using gas. I doubt so because it won't make much difference.

I also fail in calculation. But,
- how long to boil water in kettle on gas stove? 23 minutes on blue flame, not yellow flame. - how long it takes on electric kettle? - how many kettles can u boil on a single gas tank? Divide. - How many kwh used for the same amount of kettles used to boil with electric? Divide. - Take gas price per kettle, take electric price per kettle. Aiyaaaaa dunno la. |

electric kettle.
the heating element is right inside the kettle so the water can be boiled faster. for gas, the fire need to overcome the heat capacity of the metal before it can heat up the water inside more energy wasted. even if u guys insists on gas but i got one good question for you. 1. Which one boils faster? 2. Which one is more convenient to get? 3. Which one is safer to use? Think and you will know =) |

I've done the calculations.
My water boiler consumes 2000W and can get the job done in 10 minutes, therefore 2000W x (10/60)/1000=0.333kWh it will be 0.333kWh x 0.218 = RM 0.0726 I use it 3 times per day throughout a month. That means it is 0.0726 x 3 x 30=rm6.50 I have 5 person staying in this house. Therefore, I don't think it is wise to save on this considering safety issues. The difference is negligible to be honest. Yeah you could save some after 5 years, but is it worth the effort? No imo

I boil water with gas and electric. Yes electric is slightly faster but i do not know of the cost of neither. Most homes have these electric water boiler with keep hot function. Those suck electric like mad as u use it 24 hours a day. I boil with electric water pot and then transfer the water to a thermos. The water boiled by gas is cooled for regular consumption. I use my handphone alarm function to keep track when the water boils. It averages 23 minutes depending on weather.
