i want to do grill for my windows and doors

from patter point of view, i would prefer those horizontal type. the contractor told me the spacing will be about 4inch between bars

however, someone told me these horizontal type are from security point of view not advisable (need to cut less bar to get in)

i want to ask which type of SIMPLE pattern that you think is most suitable but still retain good styling?
