I have a problem with WD 1.5TB EARS green already. Problem so severe, i alrd unplug it frm my PC.
The thing is, i align it before when im using Winxp, then lately i switch to win7 32bit (maybe unrelated). Initially there will be hanging when access program from the hdd, then later everytime during bootup will prompt to check for consistencies. Even after scan, few boot is okay... happens again.
Do you think a clean format can helps?

Gain some new things today.. that is the 12V rails
One of my reason my hdd's fail might due to i have 5hdd in my desktop... hmmmm......
