3TB is hitting the mainstream market soon. 2TB might need to give way to drop price. I bought 1TB Samsung F3 @ RM188 2 months ago.

I plan to get another one to RAID it later. just gonna wait it to drop to minimum price. Another RM60 to go lol.

With the price, SSD is rather pointless with RAM so cheap these days. Plus not many of us keeping HDD writing/reading all the time.

Until they get cheaper with reasonable size, many user will not bother touching it.

I got this feeling my PCB of the HDD is fried.

If the hard disk connected to my external adapter is not making any activity or don't even spin up a.k.a. completely dead does it mean my controller board for that hard disk is dead?

I don't know what the heck had happen but according to my friend who connect the harddisk to his desktop, the moment he plug it in the computer shut down. So what do?

Do u have a second HDD that has mirrored data? HDD is cheap nowadays. Just buy a couple and mirrored it, then u wont need to worry about which one fail first and lost ur precious data.

Currently I mirrored my 2x1TB HDD each other.Once these filled up I gonna buy 2 more mirror each other again.

Not related.

Your 250GB highly is 7200 rpm or blue version (if WD)
And 1 TB mostly are green drive now, which is slower one than 7200rpm.
*

I think the higher platter density of the green drive should make up some of the performance loss from the rpm.

Strange enough why people even bother buying 1TB nowadays when the 103SJ is RM20 extra.

it has nothing to do with malware, even when u copy it on desktop HDD, it will be slow. When HDD are on full load doing any copying, it will be slow regardless.

What's wrong with the Samsung F3?

I'm also looking for a HDD to back up my files... kept reading in this read about HDD failing scares the shit out of me  doh.gif

Any recommendations? Anything like the Samsung equivalent but means for storage only, performance not really important but the HDD has to last and important is big space (1TB~2TB).
*

buy multiple HDD and store ur data. u could try buy like 3-4 unit 500GB cheap HDD and mirror ur data. Dont put it inside computer and run all the time. only use as external HDD.

I highly doubt a HDD can fail within 5years if u only use it as an OFFLINE backup drive.

I still have my quantum bigfoot 4GB 3600rpm 5.25inch here, no bad sector, thats after 15 years already.

and other drive

Quantum Fireball 15GB 7200rpm, 11years.
WD 40GB 9years
Samsung 80GB 8years
WD 200GB 7 years. All no badsectors

so? How long u want ur HDD to last? 20-30years? sweat.gif

actually most of us r looking for hdd which is mainly reliable for daily usage and kept important data.

I have been using HDD as my personal storage for many years already. I didnt bother using CD-RW/DVD-RW.

With HDD so cheap now, any of us can just buy a couple of them and mirror it.

u could just buy a HDD docking station and buy the naked HDD. it is far cheaper this way if u plan to buy a lot of HDD down the road in future. New HDD normally come with a transparent poly case or an anti static plastic bag. Good enough for u to store in ur drawer.

external HDD is only useful if u want to keep carrying ur HDD around.

and slightly more durable although the difference is negligible.

I am more interested in a 2TB 7200rpm drive going down to mainstream pricing like <RM200. It has been a while the size of the 7200rpm HDD stucking @ 2TB while the 3TB version remain 5400rpm.

Most people will recommend you to get Samsung 103SJ. It is the cheapest fastest 7200rpm 1TB in the town.

I just got my 3rd Samsung 1TB 103SJ. Really like this HDD. laugh.gif

Just make sure, u always have a case fan blowing towards ur HDD all the time.

I have all my HDDs running at near room temp, which is why all my HDDs can last for >5years without bad sectors or any other issues.
