Hi All,

I see there is a 2TB WD Black & 2TB WD Black RAID Edition.

May I know is there / how much performance gain if use the 2TB WD RAID Edition, when not configure to use RAID in system.

Is there any reliably issue between these 2 version ?

WD have some problem with non raid HDD if use as raid HDD. My NAS forum have report many case about raid problem using WD non raid HDD.

I avoid it and get the F3 2TB samsung for raid.

I'm running 4x WD Green (500GB) in RAID5, for about 6 months I think. I put them in an external raid enclosure. No problems so far.

Yup, I put them in antistatic bag/antistatic casing (like the one you get when buying Samsung) and store them in a box.

Anti-static boxes, thats where I keep em'.
I'm using a USB 3.0 toaster (RM129 from Viewnet) and a MSI USB3 expansion card (RM40).

Really, its awesome lol.

But make sure if you are using your HDD on a toaster for a long time, have your air-cond on or have a fan blow at it.

my laptop HDD is running low, so does my external

which would u guys recommend to go for first?

1. upgrading the internal
2. upgrading the xternal

1) if u dun mind reinstalling windows and all ur other software... then upgrade the internal HDD.. i believe there is also 2.5" 1TB hdd.. but its expensive and also the z height is 12.5mm

2) often the fastest/simplest way.. move all your non-essential stuffs.. eg movie to external storage..

imo,u dont have to reinstall your os and your software...
juz use a cloning software to clone all your files exactly to your empty external hdd, then install your new internal hdd and then clone back from your external hdd...
its a lot of work,but reasonable brows.gif

Just bought Samsung F3 1TB biggrin.gif

I'm planning to use the drive to replace my system drive which currently Seagate 7200.11 500GB. Well, it been giving me problem like slow access and slow bootup, so better be wise with it now sweat.gif

Any recommendation for the partitioning? Perhaps if you guys don't mind to share out your current partitioning?

I'm thinking of splitting 100GB or 150GB for OS and software while the rest available as one partition solely for storage. Some recommended sparing either 10, 15 or 20GB alone for the OS, another partition for the software and finally the rest for the storage. But when we actually reformatted the OS, high possibility that we will need to reinstall the software since the registry entries or system files will be removed, why would we divide them into different partition? Performance wise perhaps?

Thanks in advance for anyone that sharing smile.gif

No reformat needed. Hit the first post, look for Fariz quote on download link. Suggest you put 150gb for C drive.

I don't think there's anyone in a better position to advice you about partitioning than vearn27 laugh.gif. The partitioning setup highly depends on your computing habits i.e. how often do you reformat, sync your computer with other portable devices and etc. You should spend some time thinking about the most convenient setup for your habits.

In any case, I'm using the same drive and have 4 partitions:
1) 20GB OS (I simply restore a pristine image each time I want a fresh start without needing to reinstall apps because I've migrated over to portable apps)
2) 50GB Personal Documents
3) 80GB Portable apps/utils/etc
4) The rest are for movies, music etc (This drive is shared across my home network)

Have fun tinkering laugh.gif

I prefer cloning it directly to the new HDD. Then readjust the partition size if I'm moving from small capacity HDD to larger ones.

Is that F3 2TB samsung, the higher capacity version of HD103SJ or EcoGreen F3?
If it is the higher capacity version of HD103SJ, where or which shop is selling them?
