You won't see any different in standard and RAID edition Hard disk, in fact they're pretty much the same, the very high MTBF on the RAID edition means they have higher chance of longer life time, does not mean it'll not fail.
If you're not running huge server with lots of RAID drive, then by all means just get the standard drive, they can also put into RAID if you like to do so. (Software RAID)
For more information of function of RAID, google "wiki RAID".

This post might help you: http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=19674
Hopefully it solve your problem.

Thanks. Very Info rclxms.gif
For me non-RAID, i think I go for normal 2TB WD Black Edition
If use some more RAID, too many HDD in system, very hot inside ! rclxub.gif
DO u think it's good idea to get an SSD instead, for Windows Partition ? Now using velociraptor.
Can discuss SSD stuff here ?

We already have a thread for SSD.

Iirc, somebody mentioned that the firmware for RAID HDDs are different than standard HDDs. As in they have shorter timeouts so that the array knows there has been a difficulty in retrieving the data instead of thinking the entire HDD has failed.

The Velociraptor is already well on the path of the dinosaurs. It is recommended to pair an SSD for performance with a large HDD for storage.

I'll say this first as I'm in no offence of WD Black but the speed compared to Samsung is slower and the price way higher (not sure what so good about the premium).
I'm using one so I know about this, the heat is an issue, way too high in my prespective, if you really want cool harddisk, take Samsung, for the 1TB F3 version, it's faster, cheaper and way cooler than WD Black.
But, if you're royal fan of WD, then by all means, get a better fan to cool it down fast.

One main thing is that WD has reputable RMA services even you need to pay for if drive > 6 months (around RM25),
Samsung, I haven't try to RMA yet, because, no drive failed yet, touch wood

Black drive also has 5 years warranty, it does worth to pay the extra to me, my humble opinion

My top priority is a Hard Disk need Reliable.
I don't mind paying higher for Drive to store my stuff.
I also buy better fan to blow it.
Samsung not so confidence for me, my opinion, there are not originaly manufacture hard disk, so that's why.
I also don't mind loud noice, reliability VERY VERY important.

Will the best SSD in market now is RELIABLE than the best Hard Disk Drive ?

A good SSD now is more reliable than the best HDD. HDD can't tolerate being dropped, whereas SSD can be thrown to the floor and still work.

But for the price of a good SSD, you can buy three or more HDDs. For example, the Kingston SSDNow 128 GB can be had for RM 859 and you can buy four Samsung F3 1TB for the same amount of money. With four 1TB HDDs, you can RAID-1 the HDDs. You could even use two of them for periodical offline backups, one stored in a cupboard and another stored in another house/office/etc, to prevent data loss from lightning, fire or theft. And you will get almost eight times the storage capacity.

Getting a single SSD will not protect you from lightning, fire and theft and will have much more limited capacities to work with. SSDs tasked for storage duties does not appeal at this time. Maybe later when their capacity has increased a few times.

SATA offers several advantages over the older parallel ATA (PATA) interface: reduced cable-bulk and cost (reduced from 80 wires to seven), faster and more efficient data transfer, and hot swapping.

IDE = Pata

eSata = external Sata.
There is mobo, casing that come with eSata port interface to connect the external hdd.

eSata port is slightly different with ordinary Sata port, which you cannot plug ordinary Sata cable into it one. It is basically a Sata port using interface/plug different.

That computer will probably need to be able to hold two HDDs at the same time. Then you will need to use some cloning software to clone the old HDD into the new HDD.
