No such thing for data reliability, but personally believe Made In Thailand > Made In China, guess Samsung is Made In Korea & WD is Made In Malaysia. *P/S: beside HDD, others china make PC parts all I can accept. biggrin.gif

Because my HDD kong is Hitachi which labeled "Made In China", others Hitachi / Seagate all "Made In Thailand".

Always monitor the HDD temperature to keep it longer life span, add fan for it, do pc inner clean up at least half year.

Guys, which brand of HDD do you think is reliable? Hitachi/WD/Samsung? I don't want speed, just want reliability for data.

I repost at here, as I find many misunderstand about the failure rate issue. It is not about Seagate HDD failed more than 50% or WD HDD failed 19%.

QUOTE
WD got 30% market share, but failure % is 19%.

So assume there is 10000 hdd out there.
While there assume there is 100 HDD reported fail, (out of 10000 hdd).

WD sells 3000 hdd, 19 defective hdd is from them 19%
Samsung sells 900 hdd, 7 defective hdd is from them 7%

The 19% is not the failure rate of WD aka if WD sells 3000, the total failed hdd is not 3000 x 19%.
19% is just the amount of total failed HDD collected that belonged to them.

There's no such thing as perfect reliability, not even the most perfect machine in the world does.
That's why there's RAID technology, to overcome such issue. whistling.gif

i guess 3 platter will consume less power than 4 platter. unsure.gif

Less power consumption.

Some claimed less power consumption, lower heat -> more reliable.
Some also claimed less platter, less prone to Hdd failure, as you need either 1/4 platter to fail, then whole hdd might not be used anymore as compared 1/3.

Higher density, lower seek time.

But I would say, all above are negligible effect.

For computer hardware, always buy what you need time.
Don't need future proof, nor wait for newer stuff.

Wait for F4 time, may wait for F5, and forever waiting.... laugh.gif

Somebody high above you has given you another opportunity to retrieve your data. Take it!

Maybe it's 'alive' for now because it was from a cold boot. Once the drive warms up, the problems might come back again. This behaviour is what I used to retrieve what I could from one of my HDDs before having to RMA it.

agree, read some way back in years that, a remedy that putting hard disk in a sealed pack, in fridge box, and after some other time, and pray for it works.

Hello, which capacity HDD is worth buying now?Is that rational to buy a 1TB than a 1.5TB HDD fill it up and wait for the HDD price to drop further before purchasing a bigger capacity HDD?
What is the price for 1TB and 1.5TB HDD now,cz the price list doesn't update for sometimes.

FYI, 2TB is the capacity if you really looking into value per byte.
The price will definitely drop, like how I bought my 2TB just 2 months ago with RM4xx, now only RM3xx or much less, cheaper by RM30~50, almost faint-hearted. doh.gif
If you looking at cheapest, I would recommend Samsung drive, they offer 3 years warranty, same as others right now. drool.gif

my friend just bought 2TB Seagate 3.5" FreeAgent Desk at lowyat yesterday. The cheapest we can find is RM430. Try go at Viewnet, you can nego the price coz they have price margin. But, if you want cheaper there is Seagate Expansion and Hitachi ones.

I think the price for 1.5TB back in July is around RM280 for Samsung F2.How is the price for 1TB and 1.5TB for those HDD manufacture, the price list seem like outdated. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif
