Anyone spotted the most bargain F3EG 1.5TB? Maybe lesser than 235myr? Many thanks.
*
RM234 from viewnet.
You should be able to get it down to RM230.

The price I told you for 2TB is the cheapest you'll find anywhere, pretty much.

anyone using hdd docks now?

user posted image

just wondering how do you store your 'naked' hdd when not in use? My storage hdd are growing and i dun wanna pile up so many power adaptors with each external hdd set like the MyBook
*
Anti-static boxes, thats where I keep em'.
I'm using a USB 3.0 toaster (RM129 from Viewnet) and a MSI USB3 expansion card (RM40).

Really, its awesome lol.

But make sure if you are using your HDD on a toaster for a long time, have your air-cond on or have a fan blow at it.

hi,

any suggestion on 3.5" hdd enclosure?

tq
*
Get the Hornettek Goliath USB 3.
Slightmore expensive than the ESATA one.

I'm using it and its awesome.
I accidentally left my external HDD on for 2 days without realizing as I wasn't home (meaning no ceiling fan on, no aircond on too), came back and checked the temps was only at 36c.

Samsung 2TB F3EG in it.

i believe it's on idle.. and remain low temp..

will try looking for one.. where it's available? around how much?
*
Yes its on idle.
I live in a rather hot area, when it shines... the sun really, really, gets hot.

You can find it in LYP.
The last time I bought it, it was around RM179.
Got it from Viewnet Hyperstore.

any significance between 5200 RPM and 7200 RPM? F4EG is 5200RPM right?
*
7200RPM drives are obviously faster.
And no, F4EG is 5400RPM.

Correct me if I'm wrong Samsung F4 is Sata III right? Too bad mine is just Sata 2 T___T

Plan to get 2TB more cause gonna out of storage doh.gif
*
SATA II.
And it doesn't matter either ways. No mechanical HDD in existance today could even hit the speeds of SATA II yet, let alone SATA III.

Faster release in the market then I can boost my capacity and performance speed. My WD is really slow :S
*
F4EG is ALREADY ON THE MARKET, LYP.
Not every shop is selling yet due to the fact that theres still quite abit of F3EG drives left, but stocks for F4EG are a plenty.

You Jjust have to ask.

just say which shop got stock...
*
Practically most shops.
But the ones which puts out on sale is Robyncom, Viewnet, and Cycom.

The others, just ask... really.
They have it, but they aren't selling it until requested by customers because they still need to clear the F3EG stock first.

well i'm aiming for better performance...
since i already got a caviar green for storage...
was thinking of caviar black but from the chart shown earlier...
mostly will be getting spinpoint...

js dunno f4 will be better than f3 or not laugh.gif
*
Right now theres still no SpinPoint version for the F4.
So 1TB F3 remains the fastest mechanical 1TB HDD out there right now.

Note that despite F4EG is listed under the SpinPoint table, it is technically an in-between hybrid of the Samsung green drives and the spinpoints.

Very much akin to the WD Black, Blue and Green monicker.

Benchmark wise, F4EG > F3EG.
But you won't see a difference at all in real world comparisons.

F4EG is also a slight bit hotter.
I'm comparing a 2TB F3EG and a 2TB F4EG here.

My 2TB F3EG - 30c
My 2TB F4EG - 32c

Yea 2 degree celcius diff.

Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB is now RM169 at viewnet.
How much lower can it go?  shocking.gif

*
Under RM160 by the end of the year.
After that Samsung will start to phase it out in place of Spinpoint F4 1TB, replacement for the F3.

Hello everyone! I want to buy a new 1TB external hdd and considering getting hd103sj F3 Spinpoint (rm174 @Czone from previous post) since it get positive review from everyone here but I want the transfer speed faster than usb2.0. I'm wondering which enclosure option would be better, any advice?

usb3.0: hornettek goliath ht-318-u3 (RM150) + expresscardbus usb3.0 (RM196)

or

esata: vantec nst-d100su (RM120) + expresscard esata (RM95)

Or should I just get a ready-made external hdd? Thank you

The magic word is "ask".
Is it too difficult to ask the salesman for the model number?

Haha, I asked 2 times before on 2 shops.

Shop 1, Sales person A
I: what is the model for this samsung HDD in the price list
A: This is the lastest model  doh.gif
I: I want to know the exact model code
A: 1TB
1: err... never mind.

Clearly wasting time in asking, just ask A to bring out and see the HDD directly myself.

Shop 2, Sales person B
I: What is this samsung model
B: Ecogreen
I: I know it is ecogreen, I want to know its exact model no.
B: Samsung Ecogreen 1TB.
I: .......
*
Never happened to me.
I usually just insist on the model number, clearly telling them: "May I know the MODEL NUMBER?".

They'd usually just bring them out and let me check.

Just got the Samsung Spinpoint HD103SJ. From what I read, it should be faster for windows booting than my 1tb caviar black...

Is it recommended to RAID 0 the spinpoint with the wd black? If not, are there any quirks I don't know of yet where the 1tb black beats the spinpoint f3 at?
*
2 physical drives must be exactly the same for it to run in a RAID array.
So no, you cannot RAID the Samsung Spinpoint and the WD Black.

guys, i just got my 1tb f3 with hornettek goliath... the thing is, when i switch on the power on the enclosure, it is producing some sounds at the beginning, but after 2,3 sec, the sound is gone... i'm not sure the sounds came from the HD or the enclosure....is this normal guys?
*
From the HDD.
Completely normal, nothing to worry about.

3TB is hitting the mainstream market soon. 2TB might need to give way to drop price. I bought 1TB Samsung F3 @ RM188 2 months ago.

I plan to get another one to RAID it later. just gonna wait it to drop to minimum price. Another RM60 to go lol.
*
Don't wait too long.
That's all I will say.

Sorry guys.. I am noob about hardisk.

Just need your advice and expertise guys, I want to buy hardisk which might be 3TB consist of 1 TB each.

3 hardisks. I don't want to but external as it might be expensive, thus i am planning to buy internal hardisk. What is the name of the casing for internal hardisk that is portable for me to bring any where?

Any suggestion for hardisk to buy and the casing. how much will it cost?
*
In that case... wouldn't it be a better choice to get a USB 3.0 dock + a USB 3.0 card (MSI star USB3 is only RM49).
You can get USB 3.0 docks for rather cheap these days, less than RM150 isn't impossible.

anyone made comparisons of pro n cons of using 'toasters/docks' vs external casings for hdd?
*
Toasters -
The good: Easy access, save up on unnessasry purchase of HDD enclosures.
The bad: Not really that portable (you need to lug the toaster AND a naked HDD around, which isn't recommended), gets hot if your ambient temperatures are high.

HDDs in enclosures -
The good: Portability, easy to keep.
The bad: If you start to have too many, it starts to get messy. And some external enclosures are just pure horse-sh!t.
