Multi-bay USB harddisk enclosure or Network Storage (NAS). Anyone ever tried this? four 2T harddisks in one USB enclosure. Possible problems?
*
talking about multibay enclosure, with usb3.0, could get you around 70mb/s to 80mb/s, better if comes with e-sata, can get 90mb/s on avg but your mobo must support port multipliers in order to detect all the drives with single e-sata connection.
and some users are experiencing connection drop with usb3.0, need to update the firmware to overcome the issue, but not 100% solved though, e-sata is much stable.

Assuming you are not using RAID or are using RAID-1, giving you 8 TB of capacity, it will take you 3 days to full format on USB 2.0. On USB 3.0, it may take you one day to do the same. smile.gif

omg!! i'd rget the shop people to format the disks and take them home ready to play smile.gif

It has been a long while since I last gotten a harddisk. I am looking for a reliable internal 1T as primary harddisk. Which brand and model will you recommend?

I bought one Samsung HD204UI yesterday at RM255. Today I got a quotation for the same HDD at RM300++. Looks like Samsung is also heavily affected by the floods.

If they accept that they have to do the format for you, they will most likely do a quick format, which doesn't scan 99.99% of the HDD for problems, and give the hardware to you in less than thirty minutes. 95% of the time, this will not be a problem for the customer.

Personally, I'd do the formatting myself just to be sure. But a lot of people won't bother and most of them seem to get along fine.

Woot.. I just called WD RMA department.
They said they are moving from singapore to malaysia next week.
Ask me to wait for next week and proceed the RMA by walk in to their service center. rclxm9.gif

Price of HDD has gone up... I'm shocked.
Today's pricelist - A Samsung HD103SJ is now RM212 or so at Viewnet.. can't remember exactly because I forgot to bring the pricelist (it was RM168-169 for quite a while)
According to the staff the price will increase further in the coming weeks.
He attributed the flood in Thailand as a factor to this.. sweat.gif
