for acronis i didnt change any settings.

the problem shown on acronis:

drive c Seagate ST3200822A capacity 200GB
Reallocated Sectors Count raw value 11, value 100, threshold 36, status Critical
Monitoring: S.M.A.R.T.
Power on time:
868 day(s)
Disk health: 78%. <a href="0">Learn more about disk health</a>.
Disk temperature: 37 °C.
Reallocated Sectors count S.M.A.R.T. attribute reported bad block on the drive. Increasing number of bad blocks may be an indicator of imminent drive failure. In this case frequent backup and hardware replacement is recommended.

drive e Seagate ST31000528AS capacity 1000GB
Reallocated Sectors Count raw value 52, value 99, threshold 36, status Critical
Monitoring: S.M.A.R.T.

Disk health: 30%
Health of the disk is below the warning level at 70. Decreasing disk health may be an indicator of imminent disk failure. Review the S.M.A.R.T. attributes and/or monitoring script messages to determine cause of the problem. <a href="1">Get help online</a>.

Thanks for the feedback, it seems the SeaTools does not provide enough feedback on its threshold, but you should consider warranty your Seagate ST31000528AS capacity 1000GB which is quite serious consider the Reallocated Sectors Count is quite high, you should backup your data immediately if it's critical and send for warranty, in this case you might need to shows SMART test result instead of SeaTools result since it's does not gives reliable information.

Regarding your D drive, is it the Seagate 1TB? If yes you should re-run the Long DST, it seems to abort in the middle of something, or is it failed mid-way?
Just noticed the "Aborted" when I read through the result again. sweat.gif

Is Samsung 1TB Spinpoint F3 suitable for File server?
I'm planning to use 2 1TB Spinpoint F3 with RAID 1 configuration for file server. It's for office usage.

Do recommend if there's any other better hard disk. At the same time, I would need another hard disk for CCTV DVR usage. Please recommend. Thanks a lot. smile.gif

Yes, the Samsung 1TB F3 is suitable, with RAID1, if you prefer Western Digital, there's the Carviar Green 1TB which is much suitable using software RAID.
CCTV, any HDD will do, even the Samsung 1TB F3 is ok, but would be much better using a green HDD (slow spindle speed) for lower temperature since most DVR does not come with proper ventilation.

WDC currently has the 3TB Carviar Green, you can consider that, that's the largest capacity AFAIK.
I, myself using Samsung F4 2TB (largest capacity from Samsung for now)

I using 4pcs 2TB F3 samsung for NAS raid. 1 down and replace with the same model. The HDD still can run just not good shape for raid.

For file server, NAS or cctv, get the lowest RPM spin possible. It last longer. You don't need speed for this kind of application.

Faster too.

yes. you can see some people did "short stroke" with their harddisk, because single platter seems not "fast" for him/her. they want to write/read access to become short, thats why they did that even though that size will decrease. single platter 1TB will only use single disk to store data so read/write data will slightly quick.

did make a survey in several shops around kuala lumpur and still no shops have stocks. probably still not being release by manufacturer yet. sweat.gif they still sell thick 1TB drive which contain 2 disks.

Short stroking, to be blunt, is stupid.

You can get the same thing by partitioning the first 20% of any HDD. The remaining 80% of capacity you can then format for your data and other stuff.

And even a cheap, low-capacity, budget SSD will still crush, kill and destroy a short-stroked HDD in performance.
